Alan Wake Continues to Haunt My Dreams

How much longer do I have to wait to play another Finnish action game with an evocatively named protagonist?

It's been more than three years now since Max Payne developer Remedy Entertainment first whetted my whistle for Alan Wake, but I feel no closer to understanding exactly what this game is, let alone a sense for when it will be released, than I did back at E3 2005. There's a new trailer out, which you can see in all its HD glory over on Gametrailers.

It confirms the game's spooky tone, provides a glimpse of a few new characters, and while there's no apparent gameplay to be seen, it looks better than anything that's been shown of the game so far. I've got some pretty fond memories of both Max Payne games, and it took a while for Remedy to get the first one out the door. It was well worth the wait as far as I'm concerned, so I'm willing to invest a certain amount of faith and patience in Alan Wake. Still, I know better than to assume that a trailer means anything about the game's nebulous release date, so I continue to sit here, in the dark, and wait.
