Here are my category favorites:

Summer Day Beer: Corona (yup show a lime slice in it...I'm that lame) I just like the taste with a fresh lime, it good beach beer, except for the glass bottles

Stout Beer: Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout If you say stout people think of Guinness, so I zag and choose Samuel Smith every time....so yeah me just being fancy

Out-to-Dinner Beer : Samuel Adams Boston Lager In New England its on tap everywhere and it goes with wings, pizza, or even a cheap steak.

Pasta Dinner?: Birra Moretti L’Autentica I like it as a decent "lager" alternative to Sam Adams. Most Italian restaurant around her will have Moretti.

In my Refrigerator: Whale’s Tale Pale Ale A local brewery...none of you have likely had it...its IPA beer nothing special.

Yuengling. I'm a Pennsylvanian, it's basically law to like Yuengling here.

Other than that, I don't drink enough for brand loyalty to kick in. I'm pretty open to all kinds of beer (although I'm getting a little sick of IPAs).

Capital Amber from Capital Brewery in Madison. It's very middle of the road - and since I don't like really hoppy beers, but I also want something more than the mildly beer-flavored water that is Bud or Coors it fits the bill nicely. I also like that it isn't one of the super-pretentious $20 hipster nano-brews that seem to be becoming more popular around where I am.

Also, as a hottest of hot takes . . . Spotted Cow is really overrated.

"I'm broke but still want a decent beer" beer: Jack's Abby (Variety 12pck or their House Lager)

"I'm willing to drop a pretty penny on good beer tonight" beer: Nightshift (Santilli or Morph IPA)

"Solid beer for any occasion": Bell's Two Hearted Ale

Currently, that New Belgium Citradelic has been my jam!

@therealturk: Cannot agree more about the Spotted Cow, it was one of the most highly recommended beers when I was visited my brother in Madison and I was severely disappointed.

I'm fortunate in that I live about a ten minute walk from my favorite spot, Hudson Valley Brewery. They make some of the best sours around. They also use some of the coolest can art I've seen.

If I am in my home town - Shropshire Gold, but most other places I'll take what recommended - too many good beers to settle on one. If I don't trust the place, Guinness, the safe bet.

I live in LA but ever since I was introduced to Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale from Boulevard Brewing Company in Kansas City it's been my favorite. So glad I can find it here!

Hard to pick one so:

Mexican: Modelo or Dos Equis

Asian: Sapporo (by way of Canada) or Tsingtao

Wheat: St. Bernardus Wit or Hoegaarden Wit

Domestic Lager: Rolling Rock

IPA: Sierra Nevada Torpedo

In my hometown of Bellingham, WA, there's a brewery called Boundary Bay. They make an IPA called:

Cedar Dust

I don't really like IPAs, but Cedar Dust is some next level nectar of the gods stuff. It's got this slightly fruity aroma, with this citrus-y...pine tree-ish flavor. Sounds weird, but it's delicious. If you're ever near Bham (kind of a halfway point between Seattle and Vancouver B.C), I'd highly recommend going to Boundary Bay and getting a pint or two.

There are some fantastic beers brewed here in Michigan, so I try to sample a little of everything if I'm out and about. But if I'm just going to sit around the BBQ all day with some friends on a Saturday it's usually just a 12 pack of Miller High Life.

As somebody who doesn't drink very often, I wonder does Guiness actually taste like chocolate milk? If so I really need to buy some the next time I do drink

When I visited my first in college 32 years ago, we passed over a tiny, sickly stream with styrofoam cups in its banks, my friend said, "Behold! The mighty Genesee River!" There is only one river that completely crosses New York State, and that is the Genesee...along the way it must it picks up "god knows what". All I will admit to is it MIGHT be a serviceable alternative to sobriety.

@monkeyking1969: Hey, I've had Whale's Tale! I live in MA so everywhere carries Cisco. You're right about it being nothing special, but their Grey Lady is really unique and cool. I've had a ton of craft beers and I don't think I've come across anything like it.

As for my favorite, It'd probably go to Warlock by Southern Tier. It's a seasonal pumpkin stout, tastes like drinking a slightly crispy pumpkin pie. I've only ever seen it in the big bottles though, so if I'm looking for your standard 12 oz I can settle for Pumking by the same brewery(I'm a sucker for seasonals in general though). Otherwise, Clown Shoes, Weyerbacher, Two Roads, and Down the Road are all breweries that haven't done me wrong yet. Clown Shoes has the best stouts, and I think Two Roads has the best IPAs. I really need to find an amazing wheat beer, I love them but haven't found anything to match Troegs' Dreamweaver, which I can't find anymore.

My "I don't know what I want so this is my standby" is Allagash, they're just all around solid with a couple exceptional. I had one called Josephine(I think) in a bar in North Carolina and I wish I could buy it somewhere here, it was the best sour I've ever had.

Also, I'm not sure how wide spread they are and I've never seen anything but the big bottles, but Grimm is pretty fantastic.

Shiner Bock

MGD/MHL when I'm feeling cheap, Guinness for a safe bet, Flying Dog when I actually want some flavor (more specifically, the Gonzo Imperial Porter, or Kujo/The Fear when in season).

I think that's the best beer I've had, not much of a drinker though. Think its made in Victoria Australia.

I used to drink Beck's but now I find it has kind of a weird taste. I've gone way off beer though since it just makes me instantly sleepy so I don't really have a preference anymore. I usually end up with Pilsner Urquell, Peroni, Corona or random craft beers.

My preferred beers in no particular order. Not a fan of Guinness or IPAs.

I like pale ale. My favourites are:

• Jaipur. Made by Thornbridge Brewery in Derbyshire, near Bakewell.
• Moonshine. Made by Abbeydale Brewery in Sheffield. It's not actual moonshine.
• Deception. Similar to Moonshine, also made by Abbeydale Brewery.

Thornbridge Brewery make some very nice ales. I recommend people try to get their hands on some. Their bottled stuff isn't as good as draught, in my opinion. They make it cold and fizzy for the bottle, I like a nice pint of flat, slightly cool ale.

James Squire 150 Lashes is my favourite readily available Pale Ale.

Kosciousko Pale Ale is also excellent

When it comes to Pilsner it's Stella Artois for me.

When it comes to special beers i tend to stick to Omer, Kwak, St. Bernardus abt 12 but drafted it's pretty great.

And i know your Americans are into Belgium White's these days, my favorite one is Blanche de Namur.

O yeah since i live in Belgium all these beers are brewed in Belgium :D.

@the_greg: Went back to Sheffield for a 20 year uni thing and got to have all of those excellent beers! Made me miss that town a little bit more. You can get Jaipur (and the others) in London every now and then but it costs a small fortune and you are generally surrounded by people analysing the beer rather than just enjoying a drink. Abbeydale for life!

@stantongrouse: There's a beer festival at Kelham Island tomorrow. Hoping to find some new ones.

@yi_orange: If you live in Massachusetts then you should just check out Allagash's brewery. Portland really isn't that far of a drive, the brewery is pretty cool, and Portland itself is great as well. Lots of good food and drink at very reasonable prices.

My top three are

Nogne Imperial Stout: this is a real treat for me, it's so rich and syrupy, with a perfect balance of dark chocolate bittersweetness and a slight spiciness after each drink, i love it.

St peters Cream Stout: like dessert, sweet and creamy wiht toffee falvor and a little burnt caramel at the end.

Aventinus Eisbock: this one is 12% and you can tell right form the go, but what i really like is the aroma of bannanas that it has, it's like a palate cleanser from every other beer.

Unibroue Trois Pistoles

This is a dark Belgian ale (made by a Canadian brewery). I like most double and quad Abbey ales, and while Trois Pistoles isn't one of those, it's fairly similar and but has a "spiced" flavor and that gives a somewhat sweeter/smoother taste compared to traditional dark Abbey ales.

Most of Unibroue's beer are fantastic.

The national staple:

Beck's Preimier Lite

We just got news today that the Cisco Brewery sold to Craft Brew Alliance. CBA, a publicly traded craft brewery group headquartered in Portland, Ore., and today announced that it would wholly acquire Massachusetts’ Cisco Brewers, North Carolina’s Appalachian Mountain Brewery and Miami’s Wynwood Brewing. I'm sure it won't change the taste of teh beers any, but Cisco was the largest of the three brands, crafting 25,000 barrels, with distribution across 13 states. It is sad to lose a local business/brand, but that "beer business for you".

Nevertheless, it nice to hear you tried some local brews. I have only tried a few of their beers, but I want to get into Cape Cod Beer, has a ridiculous amount of types often named with puns or plays on words.

Of that list, I dig me some Lagunitas IPA, Stone IPA, Laulaner Hefeweizen and every now and then, a Yuengling and a Mickey Ultra. I normally like hoppy beers since I enjoy the flavor, but sometimes I'm in the mood for something less intense in flavor like the previous stated Beers.

Not listed I love most Cigar City beers out of Tampa, FL (Jai Alai, Gyayabera, Good Gourd Pumpkin beer, Invasion), Victory Dirt Wolf DIPA and Calusa Brewery beer from Sarasota, FL (Focus IPA, Citronious IPA). I also really like some beer from when I used to live in CT from Two Roads Brewery, namely their Lil Heaven Session IPA, Road 2 Ruin DIPA, Ol' Factory Pils and Roadsmary's Baby pumpkin beer. Yep, I just really enjoy hoppy beers and pumpkin flavored beers.

@monkeyking1969: You should check out Barnstable Brewing when you're in the area. They're fairly new and growing, but I like them a lot more than Cape Cod beer. Not that I'm hating on Cape Cod beer, I don't mind a growler of their red ale...but Barnstable seems to be the front-runner for Cape Cod breweries at the moment.

Guinness Special Export Stout. Any Guinness will do, but this one I think is even more special. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I enjoy stouts because of their almost chocolaty flavor profile.

I can always fall back on local beers like Sam Adams and Harpoon.

Even in fall I still go for summery sour ales and lambics. Rodenbach's Alexander and sours are great. A Flemish beer named Dutchess DeBourgogne is afantastic sour.

For a light drink I like mixing Guiness and a cider half and half.

Guinness

It tastes like extremely dark chocolate and a wet ashtray. It's hard to say that and also try and tell someone that it's delicious, but it isn't too far off.

Anyway, my favourite beer: Boneshaker IPA. It's very hoppy and bitter with a lot of grapefruit on the backend, which helps smooth out the flavour. It's really strong so it's hard to have more than a couple but it's so delicious.

This squared?

I had an Econ Prof in college that loved Guinness. He used Guinness as fill-in to represent any tangible good when lecturing. I decided to try it based on his recommendation and it quickly became my favorite beer.

Old Chub Nitro from Oskar Blues. Standard Old Chub is good, but that scotch ale on nitro is just perfect. I've never had a non-dark beer (porter, stout, etc.) where the nitro added as much. You can't get the nitro in cans anymore because apparently they had some issues with cans exploding, but I would risk it given the chance.
