The Grille was built using the Panzer 38(t) chassis refitted for artillery purposes. There were two versions produced during the war. The first was the Ausf. H version, which had the engine in the rear and a low-slung superstructure and fighting compartment. It was armed with a 150mm gun. The second version, the Ausf. M, had the same gun, but the engine was in the center and the superstructure and fighting compartment were now in the rear, and slightly smaller and higher.
