    Overview

The Onimusha series is a franchise created by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune and publish by Capcom. It's Capcom sixth best selling series next to Street Fighter, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Resident Evil. The series spawn several games, toys, and films. The core games in the series are action-adventure games, but the series has branched off into other genre such as turn-base strategy and the fighting game genre.

    History

After the success of the Mega Man series, Keiji Inafune wanted to develop a game inspired by one of movie director, Akira Kurosawa's, samurai films. He visited ancient Japanese temples to gain information of the feudal era of Japan.

The development of the game first started out on the PlayStation, with use of the Resident Evil engine. But with the PlayStation 2's hardware on the rise, the development shifted away from the PlayStation and onto the PlayStation 2.

The game's main character was model after Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro. Keiji Inafune stated that the reason why he wanted the main character to be model after him is because he wanted women to play the game - most of Takeshi Kaneshiro's fan base are women.
