10 games I'm looking forward to the most in 2023

2022 Report Card

I played five games I had on last year's looking forward to list. That is, if you want to include Babble Royale, which never left Early Access. The other games I played were Scorn, the second Somnium Files game, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and Stray - all four of those ended up somewhere on my GOTY 2022 list.

There's also Floppy Knights, which did come out this year, but it's probably a little disingenuous to say I really played it. I put about 40 minutes into it, and as turns out, it's really not what I wanted at all. Thankfully, it was available via Game Pass.

Four of the games I listed last time are still not out (the System Shock remake, Metal Slug Tactics, Sokobond Express, and Atomic Heart).

And still no word on UFO 50...

List items

  • Is this gonna come out next year? I'm 95% sure the answer is 'no' - I barely even know what the game is. But I'm still putting it on the list for that other 5% chance.

I'm honestly just hyped for a fresh Ken Levine immersive sim.

  • I never played much Metal Slug, but I've always been a fan of the how those games look. I also happen to be a fan of turn-based tactics.

Now just release the game already...

  • It seems to be pretty different from the previous Clash games - I mean, they're not even putting Zeno in the title!

Having seen some footage of the game, it seems like it could be pretty fun. And I already love that little fuzzy creature.

  • I'm honestly still pretty skeptical about this game. So much of what I've seen has a real 'too good to be true' vibe. But I guess time will tell...

  • System Shock 3 might never actually happen, but I can at least hope that the System Shock 1 remake will.

  • Well, here we are again...

I feel like a real sucker for putting this game on my 'looking forward to' list for the first time in five years. But, I've been assured that this will truly, actually, really come out this time around...

    Right...?

  • Yeah, I'm down for some whimsical muppet horror. Also, the weapon designs look fantastic.

  • Not quite what I'd expect from a Frictional Games game, but I'm still intrigued.

  • Definitely looking forward to this, even though we're living in a post-Telltale world.

I can't imagine this recapturing the feeling of the first game. It's also pretty likely that it'll end up being as well received as that New Tales from the Borderlands game...

  • Maybe *this* will be the Dead Space-like that's worth playing...
