Top 10 Downloadable Games of 2010

This can be related to every system. Wii, XBLA or PSN... Even PC! This is for all the good DL games that were introduced.

List items

  • Probably the most underrated game on the list, being a PC-Exclusive and all, but VVVVVV, or VEEEEEE if you want to call it, is just a cerebral joy to go through. Take 8-bit aesthetics, add a lot of mind bending gravity puzzles and a cool soundtrack and you got yourself a game that even PC haters can appreciate.

  • This is just a big hug to all the platformer fans that thought the genre is dead. Super Meat Boy hates you, you will die A LOT. But who cares? The game is so fun to play and the controls are sublime, you'd want to go on and see the next funny cutscene. There are many levels to go thought and for the price it's a steal. Definitely my favorite of 2010.

  • At first I didn't know what to make of this game. I thought it was a generic beat-em'-up with no personality, but the more I played it, I got hooked. The mechanics are solid, the levels have lots of surprises, characters are upgradable and the game has THE BEST SOUNDTRACK of the year, thank you Anamanaguchi. Scott Pilgrim is a Tri-Fecta: Great Novel, Great Movie and now a Great Game!

  • I can go on and on about how important of a game Limbo is, but so many other people did it so I am not going to talk too much about it. Let's just say it's a unique experience that everyone should try once.

  • Kudos to Namco for making an already great arcade game even better. There is NOTHING more joyous than having 50 ghosts chasing you in a high speed manner only to find that one special power pallet that turns you into a slaughterer.

  • Considering how Underworld "changed" the Tomb Raider series, no one was really expecting Guardian of Light to be a great game. It's clever blend of old-school arcade games like Smash TV and adventure games made this a match made in heaven. Play with a friend, it'll be a blast.

  • Simple in execution but still has a lot of charm, Cave Story is definitely a game that has exploration, shooting and a bit of platforming too, and easily my favorite WiiWare title, albeit it didn't have much of a competition.

  • I have a love-hate relationship with Sonic 4. I want to love it for the return to the classic gameplay and its vibrant graphics but I dislike for the odd physics and mediocre soundtrack. Even with all those blemishes, Sonic is fun, albeit not the great sequel I expected it to be.

  • Rocket Knight was the glorious return of one of my all time franchises of the 16-bit era. I think what holds it back from the higher spots is its length as well as how expensive it is. Nevertheless, it's a nice looking platformer that while not as good as its predecessors, is enjoyable.

  • I may be one of the very few people who did like Shank. Maybe I am a sucker for the game being a mash-up of grindhouse movies and Samurai Jack, but I really liked the grittiness of the world as well as having the two player co-op adventure different than the main story. It may not be for everyone but at least it deserves a mention.
