I think a lot of the people who are against this are PC players on SSD's who just don't understand how awful the growth of Destiny 2 has been on Console players, especially those on PS4 which represents the largest group of the Destiny playerbase. Every patch on PS4 takes no joke hours to copy (I can download 4-5 full 30-50 GB games before a Destiny 2 patch loads). You will spend roughly 5 minutes just to get the game to load to the character selection screeen. It even takes 20-30 seconds for your menu items to populate now, and you can wait over a minute for a Crucible match to even try to find other people (and that's with removed SBMM now). It's kind of ballooned into a really awful experience just to play now. So for me, the removal of content is a great thing in that regard.

I do however wish Bungie would have done a better job explaining what is and isn't a part of the new DCV changes. The mention of Leviathan leaving seems strange, and also the announcement that only 3 Raids will exist, 1 of which will be the new Raid. The reason it's confusing to me is because they are keeping Nessus, which is the location for the Leviathan ship. My thought about keeping EDZ and Nessus, is that they cannot fully remove D2's base campaign, especially since that is how you unlock classes, it just wouldn't work. This means they are likely just cutting out certain story missions, and leaving much of what happens in the EDZ/Nessus parts of the story in. With the Cosmodrome D1 mission already being the start for New Light players, they will expand on the intro for New Light players and likely merge that into the new D2 base story. So as much as it sucks for players who purchased D2 almost 3 years ago, that content is already now free, and that is the content that is being removed and adjusted. I don't really think anyone will be sad to see the removal of the planets Titan, Io, Mercury, and Mars, or the removal of the Curse & Warmind stories. What will be missed is the Leviathan, Eater of Worlds, Spire of Stars, Scourge of the Past, Crown of Sorrows, and 7/17 Strikes (one of which I still haven't played since it just launched with Shadowkeep, Festering Core). And the players most impacted by this will be the New Light playerbase, for whom it doesn't seem like much of the game will be left to play. This would lead me to conclude that it's extremely likely that all Forsaken content will be added to New Light for free upon the release of Beyond Light. Which would setup a pretty easy to understand precedent for how/when content will go to New Light players, which is exactly 2 years after release. So my best advice for now for people who want to jump into Destiny, is to not purchase Forsaken anymore.

This idea that content will only live on in Destiny for 3 years seems very plausible to me, whereby after that 3 years, 1 of which is free to everyone, it goes into the DCV. If that is how they plan on Destiny 2 going forward, I don't know that this is all that big of an issue as long as they are able to recreate content from the DCV as New Light free to play content, very likely to bolster their lackluster free seasonal events. I really hope they don't try to resale DCV content, as that is really messed up, but all indications as far as I can tell are to use the DCV to make it easier to create free pipeline content, which I'm all for. I honestly think this is another one of those situations where Bungie has good intentions, and absolutely terrible messaging about those intentions.

I mean, I've never been able to find a match when I disable Cross Play on PS4. Does it not do Xbox Cross Play with PS4 though, cause I've never seen an Xbox player, but the the lobbies have seemed to actually be about 50/50 on PC/PS4 players. I really wish the default was opt in on PS4 as well, rather than opt out, because seemingly nobody ops out.

If you are further behind than Forsaken, I'd just pick that up right now. There isn't enough in the current Season to justify owning it imo. With Forsaken, there is a lot there (and it's under $25), get caught up, and wait for the next season if you are caught up, or the Summer Season (around June) that will lead up to the next big Fall expansion (or Destiny 3 possibly). Those are the Season Passes that will be more meaty I think since what we have now was likely developed alongside Shadowkeep and won't be improved like last years Opulence was. That Summer Season will likely be the worthwhile content leading up to Fall, and that's about the time you want to be caught up for what comes next anyways.

@fleasquireInformation and Leveling Guide, see Weapons/Mods/Armor/Masterworks sections. There is a video by Datto linked there explaining Armor 2.0, and I tried to explain Weapon Mods, though it's a pretty simple concept. You unlock Weapon/Armor Mods as permanent unlocks through activities or the Gunsmith. They cost $5k glimmer to equip each time, but are infinite equips once unlocked. Here is a list of all Mods and a short description of what they do.

I highly recommend checking out the video below by Houndish. He does a great job of explaining how to obtain Quests for New Light Players, and those returning to the game after a break. Though the short answer to your question is you should check in the Tower with Amanda Holiday. I am currently updating the Information and Leveling Guide, but there is a lot to go through, so it might not be fully up to date for a week or two.

Just wanted to bring this to the attention of our PC Players, but Exile recently created a Steam Community Group for those on PC to utilize to help players without a lot of existing Steam Friends find other GB Destiny players to group with. Feel free to join.

You should probably check out both the Discord and join the Lincoln Force private channel via Bot Channel, and see if they have any room atm. They are by far the most active group of Xbox One players around here. After a cursory look, they are full at 100 players, but they might be able to remove an inactive player for you. And if not, that's where they hang out to chat so you'd at least be able to hit some of them up to check out Shadowkeep next week when it launches.

Do we win... or lose with the highest number, haha. We've joked about this on the Discord a few times, and I know I don't have the most hours of anyone there, but I think mine are quite a bit higher than others here.

Destiny 1 PS4 - 2,261h, 75 hours Wasted (deleted characters)

Destiny 1 Xbox - 30h (don't ask, went to help a friend with stuff, but should have never done that)

Destiny 2 PS4 - 943h

Destiny 2 PC - 51h

Total time playing Destiny franchise, 3,360 hours... over almost 5 years. $220 spend on D2, $175 plus some cheap cosmetics a few times (probably $10-15). So all in all I've spent about $0.12 per hour, not too bad I guess.

Now I need to go take a shower and hug my nieces I think... That's a lot of missed sleep and little league softball games. Joking, that sounds like a lot of hours, but it's about 7% of my time, or an average of 11 hours per week. Probably 10% of my time is spent gaming, and Destiny taking up 70% of my gaming actually sounds right, it's not like I played games more or less the past 5 years, just that I've played less other games. Though as you can tell I've spent a ton less since Destiny 2 than in Destiny 1.

So, just to put some clarity on what has been discussed after the Bungie Streams... (For the most up do date info and to talk about the changes, feel free to drop by the Destiny Discord)

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep Reveal Trailer

Loading Video...

First Light

So, Bungie is releasing a new version of Destiny 2 called First Light on September 17th, 2019. It's completely free on PSN, XBLA, Steam, and Google Stadia. It includes a modified start to Base Destiny 2 that drops you into the Tower after an intro mission (the mission that starts D1 actually). It DOES NOT include other D1 content. Then, you are allowed to start or pick up and play any of the Y1 Campaign's, from D2, to Osiris, to Warmind. All other Y1 content is available for free with First Light, including Leviathan, Eater of World's, and Spire of Stars Raids. You will also be able to unlock all current and forthcoming Destination Zones, including Tangled Shore, Dreaming City, and the new with Shadwokeep Moon. But, all content associated with those locations will be locked, such as Campaign/Strikes/PvP Maps/Raids/Dungeons, etc. Game Modes released seem to also be included with First Light, as Bungie mentions your ability to jump in Gambit with friends.

For clarity, First Light is the base version of the new Destiny Platform going forward it appears. So basically all current owner's copies of Destiny 2 will convert into the free First Light version at launch, adding in and updating content to how it exists within First Light.

Forsaken Content

As of today, Forsaken and the current Annual Pass is being bundled together for $40. This will be the price point of the Forsaken Expasion content and Season Pass going forward. It will also likely be the same future price point for yearly content bundles, though that wasn't stated outright.

Shadowkeep Content

Shadowkeep Expansion content is stand alone, meaning you only have to have the free First Light, and then purchase the Shadowkeep Expansion for $35. You do not need to own Forsaken Expansion at all. There are an awful lot of changes coming with Shadowkeep that look particularly interesting such as the new Armor 2.0. Though we honestly didn't learn all that much today about Shadowkeep itself. Look towards the future for more info on this Fall's DLC.

Season's Going Forward

Seasonal Content, going forward, will be stand alone, and only require ownership of said Season and the First Light free game. No prices were discussed, but likely they will sell each Seasonal Pack for about $10, and it looks to be released throughout D2Y3 every quarter, or 3 months, with the Fall launches being the larger, more expensive add on's like Shadowkeep is. Like Shadowkeep and Forsaken, each Season Content will be locked from First Light owners unless they purchase that specific Season.

Cross Save, Platform Exclusivity (or lack thereof)

There will no longer be Playstation (or any) Platform Exclusive content of any kind as of 9/17/19 when the PS deal ends and all PS content will release on all Platforms. Additionally, Cross Save will be coming to all platforms, including Playstation (according to Jason Schreier this development was actually only approved yesterday). Cross Save might be available sooner on PC/Xbox One, but that is still up in the air. Ownership of Content, as you can see below, and Silver Purchases, will still only be accessible to those Platforms you own certain aspects of Destiny 2 on. Meaning if you don't own Forsaken on Xbox One, you can't play Forsaken Content, and if you only own Shadowkeep on Google Stadia, then you can only play that content on that Platform. But your characters, equipment, etc will move to all Platforms at all times seemingly. https://www.bungie.net/7/en/CrossSave

PC Client Moving To Steam

All current owners of Destiny 2 on PC will be allowed to download the Steam version for free (and as much content as they currently own). Going forward, all sales, and play of Destiny 2 will happen from the Steam Client, as they are breaking away from the Blizzard Client. This will mean all PC players will need to redownload the Steam Version of Destiny. Similar to the Cross Save news, since your profile is now on the Bungie Servers, your progress will move over to Steam from Blizzard.

I hope this information helps clear up some of the confusion around today's announcements. I will continue to update this info as I can, and if any of the information is incorrect or new information adjusts it as we go throughout today, as later today we will also be having Bungie's weekly update TWAB.
