@mrlogical:

But it’s like you said, different people, different era. Grubb wasn’t working for Giant Bomb when that originally happened. I’m not sure how you think it should have been handled. Or what explanation you might be looking for. Was Grubb supposed to start that stream and say “I understand there was some controversy last time you appeared on the site. I wasn’t working here so I can’t really speak to it”?

For a spoilercast from three guys that played the game they seem to be pretty unsure on a lot about it, lol. Granted it's pretty dense in lore, but there's just simple stuff they don't remember or know. Especially Dan, but go figure.

@onemanarmyy: Noticed this as well but I think it's not actually his mic being low but just that he's not close enough to his mic most of the time. Everyone else stays up on their mic pretty closely while John is kinda far back on his for much of the podcast so he sounds lower.

I've been watching Danika stream some of it on Waypoint, and man this game is something.

I really want to wait until Kiwami 2 comes out and then play 3-5 (4 and 5 are on PS Now, don't know how i'm gonna play 3, don't want to buy a PS3 just to play it). But I imagine Kiwami 2 is probably not going to be out until next year.

...And this is really testing my willpower.

Did my podcast skip or did they not talk about Nintendo Labo or the Minidirect with Dark Souls for the Switch? It's possible my podcast was left on for a large section when I wasn't around and I missed it. Did I miss it?

You missed it, they definitely talked about it.

The deliberations this year were.....weird. And disappointing. Like I get it, it's their list(s) and everything, but holy fuck. The mental gymnastics and constant flip flopping and contradictions...

There are games that were considerations for some categories that they tossed off and said were "better for other categories" and then never even nominated those games for those categories.

I disagree with a lot of the best game list. It was obvious that PUBG was going to win it. Even after that hemming and hawing for the past few months about whether or not it was going to reach a "full 1.0" release, and whether that actually even meant anything, and how they shouldn't change the rules just because a game they really liked this year happened to be a early access game, and how they should just change the rules for next year instead. It makes it clear that they likely would have made PUBG GOTY even if it hadn't have barely made it this year.

The metrics and arguments they used for all the deliberations this year were even more arbitrary than ever it seems.

Mass Effect Andromeda was bad, but I don't think it was THAT bad. I think Brad is being a tad hyperbolic. I played it 2-3 months after release, post a few patches to fix the worst stuff. And yeah it was still buggy here and there. Probably the worst bug I encountered playing on PS4 is driving the Nomad around. For some reason on every planet the Nomad would intermittently hitch and freeze on screen, while the audio would still be going as if it were still moving. That was annoying. I haven't played in lately to see if it's still like that.

I enjoyed playing ME:A for what it was. It IS disappointing, and it's annoying that there are major plot threads not tied up that were obviously meant for DLC that never happened or was ever planned, instead making it a book instead, which I have NO interest in at all. Not because I don't like reading, but because I shouldn't have to go read a book to find out shit that should have been in the game.

But all that being said, I don't think it's the WORST game this year.

Janina is fucking rad, Her becoming a friend of the site might be one of my favorite GB things this year.
