Ooh, a personality I actually knew about before Giant Bomb. Voidburger does a lot of horror game stuff on her channel, which would've been cool to see since Abby left a horror void on the site, but the new show seems fun anyhow.

I'm honestly not as down as everyone else on the new stuff. Albummer may not be for me, since I feel like I get a lot of similar content but with way more depth on various Youtube channels anyway. Otherwise, the news shows seem like lighthearted fun to check out when content wells run dry in other places.

Oooh, I definitely agree with "Magnificent Seven". As for me, the tentative list would be....

  • Pogo - Digitalism
  • Gasoline Dreams (with Khujo Goodie) - Outkast (or literally anything from Stankonia)
  • Stylo (feat. Mos Def and Bobby Womack) - Gorillaz
  • BagBak - Vince Staples
  • BOOGIE - BROCKHAMPTON
  • Promiscuous - Nelly Furtado & Timbaland
  • Being Boring - Pet Shop Boys
  • Only You - Yazoo/Yaz
  • Ring My Bell - Anita Ward
  • Literally anything by CHIC and Chaka Khan -- this game NEEDS more disco

Some more modern stuff would be nice, since the 2020s selection is not particularly hot right now. (That new Billie Eilish has a delicious bass.) I'd personally love more goth, if only because they tempted me with that Echo and the Bunnymen track.

@plan6: Hmm, I disagree that Eva is uncritical of those misogynistic thoughts; to me, it's the complete opposite. EoE goes out of its way to depict the world in which all the women in Shinji's life are unconditionally nice to and physically intimate with him as a bloody, apocalyptic hellhole where everybody on earth loses individuality and free-will. (In that sense it is a "incel nightmare given physical form", but one that is deliberately invoked as a bad thing.) The last episodes of the show also make it very clear that it is Shinji's self-hatred -- which he projects onto everyone else -- that is the problem, not women being unkind to him. The series is sympathetic to him, while also pointing out that his worldview is wrong and needs to change.

I do agree that Eva isn't always the best with its female characters. At the same time, I think Eva tends to resonate really well with female audiences (or, at least for me) partially because it has complicated female characters whose lives don't revolve around the MC, and who are allowed to be mean/not always subservient to his desires. The most misogynistic thing about Eva, to be honest, is what happened to the anime industry after it came out.

I think there are a lot of works where it is painfully obvious looking back that the MC is a proto-incel and the writers/directors actually think those views have any validity (e.g. Chronicle), but I don't agree that NGE is one of them. Also sorry thread :^}

If we are going to go into the world of terrible animes that are popular for bad reasons, darling in the franxx exists. Fuck it, people like end of evangelion and that thing is a repugnant, incel nightmare given physical form(PS, I used to like End of Eva, but it has not aged well at all).

Don't really wanna derail the thread, but how do you watch End of Eva and think it's pro-incel? The entire movie directly refutes that ideology. And having watched it within the last month, I'd say it holds up fairly well, in my opinion.

On the topic of FMA, I remember really hating how much Brotherhood was hyped up by everyone around me. It was to the point that I was fully expecting to hate it, only to be pleasantly surprised that it actually was as good as most people said it was. A very rare case of hype actually not killing the show for me.

The amount of replies that don't understand why "shadowy cabals secretly controlling social justice movements" is a bad thing made me realize just how easy it is to disseminate far-right propaganda among ordinary people, which is a depressing thought.

I don't even know why the Tom Clancy brand (incl. outside of games) has such staying power.

The only example I can think of would be DOOM (2016) but without the shotgun/super shotgun. That change wouldn't make it a bad game overall, but I love that super shotgun so much it's genuinely distressing to think about it not being there.

Also concurring that every game on the planet would be ruined with the addition of David Cage.

Saying that everything meaningful has only ever come from peaceful protests is not only a woefully idealistic view of history, but ignores fundamental truths about the women's suffrage movements, labour rights movements, civil rights, or the Pride movement, NONE of which achieved their goals without the exact kind of rioting we see today.

Peaceful protests are very easy to ignore, belittle, and suppress. Colin Kaepernick should be proof enough of that. Despite this, the VAST majority of protesters out there on the streets are doing so peacefully. In any case, any violence that could possibly be enacted by protesters is in no way comparable to their brutalization by heavily militarized cops. One side has riot gear, tear gas, stun grenades, surplus military assault rifles, armored vehicles, etc. The other side has... water bottles? Some bricks laid out by the police specifically to enable opportunists?

If you believe in peaceful protest then loudly support the thousands of peaceful protesters on the streets right now; or the people campaigning for police/prison reform; or the people who run soup kitchens, mental health services, daycare services, etc., which help black and other marginalized communities try and mitigate the effects of systemic inequality everyday. But remember that moral hand wringing does truly nothing at all.

(Thank you to the mods and admins of the site. I really appreciate the work y'all are doing to try and keep these conversations happening.)

@bacon: A cop being a racial minority didn't matter in the murders of Philando Castile, Akai Gurley (done by your beloved NYPD), or Sandra Bland, among others. George Zimmerman being half-Latino wasn't a factor when he shot Trayvon Martin in cold blood. Anti-blackness is a global phenomenon. What are you trying to prove?
