Wait, what? Fighting games? Hell yes.

So, I've recently been watching a lot of high-level tournament SSF4 and BBCS matches, and it really got me back into it again. IPLAYWINNER has really good coverage of
tournaments around Cali, and every wednesday they stream from Starbase arcade. If you like to watch some SSF4 with fun commentary, I really recommend checking them out. Or if you just like fighting games in general.

So, I decided to finally get a Madcatz TE stick, which arrived today, so I'm really excited to try it out, I've been using the wireless Hori Tekken stick that came with the Tekken 6 bundle until now. Now I just want BBCS to arrive today, and everything will be great.
I've really been looking forward to the new characters, they seem like good additions.

Oh, Cataclysm came out today, got to pick that up too, but I don't think I'll have that much time to play it this week, going to help arrange a convention this weekend. I'll be in charge of the video game section. It will be interesting for sure.

Skate 3 - Singleplayer impressions

So, I finished up the single-player part of Skate 3 over the weekend, I only have four spots left to find. Overall I thought it was a good experience, the goals felt more in line with regular skating for the most part. Hardcore mode makes everything a lot harder as well, at first I had my mind set on completing every challenge on HC, but that thought didn't last long.

The tutorial seemed like it was really good, I can't say too much about it since I've been playing both of the earlier entries in this series for quite some time. No Coach Frank outside the tutorial though, would've liked to see that. Haven't touched the multi-player yet, or the skate.Create features, I'll get around to that later.
(half-relevant clip of Jason Lee being, well, Jason Lee)

I might get around to writing a proper review at some point, we'll see. I definitely think it is a good sequel, even though it doesn't add much the quality is still as high and it introduces a couple of new things that makes it feel a little more justified.

Skate 3 demo

So, I found out this week that the Skate 3 demo had hit PSN, so I grabbed it and started to mess around in it. Having played the first two games fairly extensively, although only offline, I really apprechiate the changes they've made. Hardcore mode made this a day 1 purchase for me, more or less.

Just something I made, testing out the video stuff. Have you tried out the demo, and have you made any clips yet?

P4

Been watching the Persona 4 Endurance Run a bit more, up to episode 80 at the moment, and it only makes me want to play that game more and more. ...I really shouldn't have picked up World of Warcraft again.

PC building talk. Oh, and there's something about a car as well.

So I've recently come to the conclusion that I need to get a new PC. I could just upgrade the one I have, but I'd like to get a new case as well as just starting fresh again. But damn, building a gaming PC is pricy. Although, I have to say, the feature over at Tested really helped out and I've decided to go for a more or less identical machine.

Still, it's a lot of money, and it's going to have to wait some months still, since I'm buying a car next month. A used -92 BMW 318is coupe. It's in really nice condition, the only thing I will have to do is to get a new stereo, since the original one isn't really working properly. With brand new summer tires as well, new dubbed tires will need to be gotten at some point after the next winter. But still, it's a really nice car, not the slowest to drive around in, and the price is pretty reasonable as well. Only two grand. WIll probably post some pictures then. I still haven't played more than 23-24 hours of Final Fantasy XIII, and I really want to get back into that. I found it to pick up conciderably after around 15-16 hours in my case, and I've really enjoyed it. Also got the Tekken 6 arcade stick edition this week. Even though I already have Tekken 6, I had to get it. It was on sale for a third of the price, and that's less than what an arcade stick costs over here. I'll probably just sell the extra copy of the game back somewhere, but I can't wait to get some matches in. I've rambled on long enough now, time for me to head home. Have a good one.

March gaming, turning 21.

So, turned 21 today. Nothing special there. I did recieve Final Fantasy XIII though, and while I am only roughly 3 hours in, I really like it so far. The english voices aren't as bad as I thought they would be, and although some make me cringe once in a while, it's generally good and made for a nice positive surprise. I'll probably write something more about it later when I have had the chance to play more.

Also played Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Assassin's Creed II this month. I owned the first AC but the copy got lost somewhere, so I never got to finish that game. While flawed and repetitive, I really liked it, so I was looking forward to the sequel. Man, that did not dissapoint one bit. Assassin's Creed II is a really great game. There's enough variety in the missions for it to avoid that repetition, the Desmond story goes in a direction I really like and all the good stuff from the first one (combat, free-running and such) feels tightened up. I don't think I'll return to it though, I got my platinum and that felt like enough.

So, Bad Company 2 then. Haven't played a ton of it yet, around 12-13 hours perhaps and half of that time was spent in single player. BC2 might be the first FPS that I actually enjoy a great deal on a console. The story was forgettable, although the squad banter was good and funny. Still have a couple of trophies to get (destroying the m-com stations and demolishing a bunch of houses) but the main draw for me was the multiplayer, and hey, it's pretty good. Now, I've been playing FPS games online on the PC since late 2000, and I've always frowned upon the console counterparts(except for Perfect Dark, that game is sick), never came to terms with the controls really.
This is the first time that I've actually felt good about controlling my dude with a controller, yes it's a similar control scheme to COD/MW2 as far as I can tell, but I never played those on a console. Probably going to play some more on and off but FF XIII is going to take up a lot of time.

Going to have some sort of movie night this weekend with a couple of awesome friends, really looking forward to that. Star Trek, Inglourious Basterds and more will be seen and fun will be had by all. Also, way too long first post, but it'll do.
