Quick Look: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

Been looking forward to this. Curious to see if this game is as good as people are saying.

Well, I guess it can't be any worse than The Cartel at least.

I played an hour today, it is pretty good, and it's only $11.24 at GMG (steam key) which may or may not beat the US steam price but it certainly beats EU pricing.

I don't know much about guns, but isn't that a loading gate on the side of the rifle?

It's a shame about The Cartel, because I thought they had some legitimately great ideas in that game. The weird sort of competition that came within the co-op seemed really awesome.

I finished this a few days ago, it's pretty great. The very end had a neat little amusing twist on a secondary character that I really liked.

This looks pretty cool good on them for putting out a quality arcade title. Hope it sells.

Hey, I had a lot of fun playing The Cartel co-op with a friend. Some hilarious Techland... well, not truck, but SUV hijinks to be had. Full on three player competitive co-op with all the secret agenda things would make a good TNT if you're out of new games to play...

I am on my new game plus playthrough and this game is a fantastic surprise. I am thoroughly enjoying the content in this experience.

So is this game DL only, no boxed copy?

Agreed! I'm a sucker for a good cowboy game. I'm actually playing through Bound in Blood at the moment, it's pretty good! I had gotten around halfway through the game a while back, but never finished it. Gunslinger coming out this week made me decide to bust it out and actually play through the whole game this time.

Jeff is right, BiB has some issues, but it's still quite enjoyable. The cover system is a little janky, and I wish there were more differences in playing between the two brothers. But the story is actually surprisingly good, and I like the way it is told from the perspective of the brothers' religious younger brother.

From the QL, I think the duels in BiB seem better, in terms of mechanics. I like having to move left or right to keep the enemy in sight while also still having to move your hand around.

Got to get all of that Patrick in before he splits, though.

I love when Patrick is enthusiastic about games. It makes me want to play them all the more.

Well at least you won't see him much longer, as Taja said. No worries though, soon he'll be another Alex. Everyone likes Alex right?

Pre-ordered it on Steam and got Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood for free.

I'm genuinely surprised at how fun this actually looks.

I might pick this up after I finish Blood Dragon. Continue the streak of nice 15 dollar shooters.

Such a shame that there's an A team and a B team at Techland. The A team is putting out good games and earning some good points for the Techland name while the B team... well, they fuck that up big time.

I am a HUGE fan of these $15 titles with 10-15 hours of gameplay (Blood Dragon and CoJ:Gunslinger). I think Gunslinger proves that you don't really NEED the $60 AAA budget title first. But seriously, this game is AWESOME. It only gets better from where Patrick is.

I will just say that at one point you duel two brothers at once, and it's FUCKING INFURIATING, but when you finally win, it's so goddamn satisfying.

A good Techland western shooter with a nice art style and story hook removed from the story of the origionals? I'm in!

5 minutes in and this game looks surprisingly good.. It's the good Techland so to speak.

Also I am not big on Pat slipping off to Chicago after he has, with a bit of difficulty, established his place here. In other words, keep producing Pat and make it work like you have.

But back to subject, I may get this game. And only $15.00...right the F*** on!

Honestly, I like Alex's input more now that hes not in the office. Makes what he has to say more important rather than being saturated with him. I think the same goes for Patrick. Those that dont like him (like myself) will hopefully have a better appreciation of his stances once hes not being shoved into the faces of everyone.

@rpoland123: Perhaps it would be more apt not to complain that there's too much content on this website made by Patrick, but that other employees aren't stepping up and making content. It's not Patrick's fault that other people aren't making it their business to check out and present new games as they come up on the release calendar.

Personally I would be way happier if other employees stepped up and handled stuff like this because any of them is qualified to talk about the new corridor shooter of the week, but there's a whole world of games that Patrick's been experimenting with that nobody else on the staff would ever touch. But we haven't heard about as many releases off the beaten path from him lately :(

At least that thing he discovered for Spookin' with Scoops was pretty great.

I played it for an hour or so before the Friday show and really enjoyed it as well. Super good shootin' at a discount price.

Between this and the Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, it feels like a return of the good, mid-tier games.

Reminds me of The Darkness 2, both in the artstyle and the gunplay.

Haven't played a shooter in a while, and haven't played a western game since Red Dead...so I'm kinda interested in this!

Do some people not understand that without Patrick, a lot of these quicklooks wouldn't even exist? If you don't like Patrick, you don't have to watch it. But at least he's giving a lot of games, that many may overlook, a chance to be in the spotlight.

Looks pretty cool. I haven't played an old west game in a while so I may have to check this out.
