This is one for the history books. Up there with the best videos on the site.

I think I'll try playing SH2 on a PS2 emulator. PCSX2 is real good now.

Thanks for the video, and for the series! Would love to see a run of Silent Hill 2. I've always wanted to get around to it, but I heard the HD version that came out for Playstation was not received well.

Also, I know you already have a lot on your plate, but: Film & 40s with David Lynch movies. Just saying.

Fun fact about the UFO ending both printed guides: The Official Prima Games and Brady Games "Totally Unauthorized" guides given incorrect info on how to get it. They say you only have to use the Channeling Stone in 2 areas...which makes it even more amazing anyone found the ending.

I have zero idea, to answer the question. Looking forward to the Jansplanation.

I've heard of the UFO ending, but had no idea that credits theme was such a jam!

Oh, and Silent Hill Film and 40's, please. I remember the entire theater laughing hysterically for the last half hour and I'd be curious to revisit it.

Not that scary, Jess? The transformation of the world into a metallic world of babies with knives killing me while metal angrily clanked in the audio freaked me the hell out when I was a freshman in high school. It still makes me turn away from finishing the rest of the games in the series that I really want to play.

I definitely had a presentation in grad school where I was supposed to present about Switzerland's health care system that I forgot I had to do. Thanks to some quick internet searching, PowerPoint (which I will always like better than Google Slides, fight me.. jk I could not best violent Jan on my best day) and its auto-design feature, and letting everyone else go first, I was able to assemble a full 5 minute presentation with fancy slide design. Vamping and stupid jokes go a long way, even in grad school :D

What I'm trying to say is, Jan is clearly a master and I still have much to learn.

Wonderful presentations. The Janplanation takes me back to bullshitting my way through hastily prepared public speaking projects. When in doubt, add slideshow animations and silly gags.

Professor O'Brien's lecture was fairly comprehensive. The cult stuff has never been all that interesting to me. SH1 has much stronger mood and style than plot and characters in my opinion. But having the story laid out makes it slightly more coherent and seem less disposable.

Now, SH2 is a game worthy of analysis. I can envision Jess already drafting the syllabus for a multipart epilogue. It will be soul-crushing and I am psyched for it.

Run for the Hills has been one of the best series in years. Seriously love seeing one of my favorite game series get an awesome show on my favorite website about video games. Really, really hope you'll get to Silent Hill 2, that game is just so perfect.

this show is my favorite one going at GB atm! great work Jess & Jan!

i honestly started out thinking that going through SH1 first was a mistake, and was basically planning on just sticking it out for the eventual SH2 pay-off, but i was glad to be proven wrong as i really enjoyed it throughout!

(turns out the game holds up surprisingly well, on account of it's great environmental art and soundtrack, and having someone knowledgeable about the game there to assist really smooths things out, also, that hammer ❤)

i'm really looking forward to SH2, as it is such a huge leap from SH1 in pretty much every respect! (from what i remember anyway)

Now I might just be a dog, but Silent Hill 1, 2, 3, ..4-ish, and Frozen Memories
are some of my favorite games, and I've truly enjoyed Run for the Hills on GB.
My only gripe is that every episode seemed to be on a tight time constraint;
a lot of "do we have time..." and "I have a hard out at..." which kinda ruined
the chill factor for me a little. Being a website once known for videogames
directly applied to the forehead, I feel their only running (?) focused videogame
series should be in a prime slot and allowed the 90-120 minutes breathing room of other features.

Ofc I know that Silent Hill 2 isn't 100% decided on yet, but I'm just being hopeful here,
and of course I would love nothing more than to see this classic be handled by Jess & Jan.
I feel deep down that Jan needs Silent Hill 3 for some obvious reasons I won't mention
due to spoilers.

Anyway that's my hopes and dreams for Giantbomb.
TLDR: I've loved this series and I would love it even more if it continues!

That was a really fun wrap up, I look forward to the depressing, miserable nightmare that is Silent Hill 2 (Man, the letter, still gets me). Also really hoping y'all get to 3 at some point too, for obvious reasons(well, not obvious to Jan yet!), and because I think that one is the scariest on a pure moment to moment basis.

I agree, it was kind of a bummer that there always seemed to be a meeting or something coming up to cut the episodes short. It would be nice if things could be scheduled to avoid that in the future. But I'm not complaining; this is my favorite of the current shows regardless, and this was a great wrap-up. Long live Team Fancy Cat!

Dan Birlew, who wrote a lot of game guidebooks back in their heyday, had a gamefaqs account named "president evil" under which he wrote plot guides to this and i think other games known for their oblique storytelling. i remember it being very helpful back around when SH1 came out. and it's still there!
