Mini Bio
Combining his guitar virtuosity with incredible musical sensibility, Steve Vai has created a name for himself as a supreme composer. While he is known primarily for his heroics on the guitar, Vai had always dreamed of becoming a composer first. He began his musical career by working with Frank Zappa on many of his albums in the 80's. His first solo-album was 1984's self-released
Flexable. Over the next decade, Vai switched between various bands like
David Lee Roth and
Whitesnake before releasing his highly acclaimed solo effort
Passion and Warfare in 1990. Vai has continued to indulge his passion for weird and unique sounds, experimenting with very new album he releases. His latest work,
Sound Theories continues that tradition and showcases Vai playing with a full orchestral band. Vai wrote all the symphonies for this performance.
In 1999, he started his own record label under the name "Favored Nations". His next album,
Ma Raison, is slated to be released later this year.
