Dead Rising 2 Formally Announced

Everything you heard about it is probably true, from the developer to the platforms.

Mere days after sneaking out a non-committal video on the topic, Capcom has confirmed that Dead Rising 2 is in the works, with development efforts coming courtesy of Blue Castle Games, a studio based in Burnaby, British Columbia. That's in Canada, where I'm told that they're taught about how to deal with a zombie threat as soon as they hit Grade 8. Blue Castle will receive assistance from members of the original game's development team, and Keiji Inafune himself will serve as the game's producer.

The press release teases that more details are forthcoming, but it does mention that the casino-heavy footage found in the initial tease doesn't mean the game is set in Las Vegas. Instead, it's set in "Fortune City," an "all-new gambling paradise." And here I was hoping for an achievement/trophy based on killing a number of zombies that matches Vegas' population.

Given Capcom's continued dedication to multiplatform releases, it probably won't surprise you that the game is headed to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Anyone wanna take bets on if the PC version will ship later than the console versions, just like every other Capcom multiplatform release? No? Smart move. But, for the record, no release date has been announced.
