Deets And Screens For Halo Wars' New Historic Battle DLC

If you were a little nonplused over the first Halo Wars DLC release--which merely added new rulesets for the shipping multiplayer maps--you're in luck. Microsoft is coming correct with the new Historic Battle add-on, due out next Tuesday the 21st for 800 space bucks ($10).

“Historic Battle” expands the universe for “Halo Wars” fans with four new multiplayer maps with varied terrains for players to find their competitive edge by using unique features of each map. The four new maps include:
 

• Barrens (1v1 Map): Difficult terrain channels units into killing zones. The side that controls the Forerunner artifacts will have the advantage.
• Blood River (1v1 Map): Secure base locations on nearby cliffs overlook this naturally red-tinged river. The soldiers that fought over its two narrow crossings gave the river its name, which has since taken on a greater meaning.
• Glacial Ravine (3v3 Map): A snow-topped mountain range forms a natural barrier that cuts this region in half.  Control of the two energy walls at the narrow central pass often determines the outcome of the battle, though clever use of the Sentinel Factories may play a role as well.
• Memorial Basin (2v2 Map): The high ground in the middle offers good cover for infantry, while the generally open terrain transforms organized battle plans into bloodbaths.

 
“Historic Battle” also adds four new Achievements worth a total of 100 points:
 

• Tour Coming Through: Hot drop 50 squads to your Covenant Leader in a single game on Memorial Basin (30 points)
• Never Leave a Man Behind: Finish a game with 5000 net resources contributed to your teammates on Barrens (15 points)
• Drain Cleaner: Kill 20 enemy squads with a continuous Covenant Leader Power on Memorial Basin (30 points)
• Killjoy: Disrupt 5 active Leader Powers in a single game on Blood River (25 points)

I love Halo Wars.  It is the only RTS game with a fanbase bad enough at the game that I can win more than once every hundred matches.

still wish it was on PC. Thought I'm sure if it was it would make the 10 year old game play feel even more obvious but still. I like the halo universe it just makes me sad that the games have all been genres that are bad to play on consoles.

Fuck sake, maps should not cost money! This is why I hate Halo multiplayer.

Relic are giving 8 new maps, several new features and a shit ton of changes all for free in a new patch for DoW2, even EA give free maps out.

How in the hell are these "Historic Battles"?

I'm a Halo story buff, and while Halo Wars's story was decent content-wise, it was presented terribly. Even so, I thought it was an interesting side story. That said, I think that it's relatively retarded to try and call a pack "Historic Battles" when it's just a bunch of random skirmish maps that have no bearing on actual story events of the past Halo games/novels.

I'm glad we're finally getting new maps, but Strategic Options should have never happened. While it is cool to have those game modes available, they should have come in this package. Four maps and three modes is a decent purchase at $10. $20 is seriously pushing it. I'll buy it though, cuz I've been jonesing for some new maps for a while now.

Looks pretty cool.  I love this game especially as an RTS on consoles which i would have scoffed at previously being primarily a PC gamer.

Those are some really horrible screenshots... so bland and empty... Meh... Do a poor job of getting me excited. But then, I wasn't a huge fan of Halo Wars, so that explains it.

I like how they release screenshots with absolutely no units in them. It does them no favors.

They shoulda made blood gulch as a map for halo wars. How crazy would that have been! Obviously they'd need to make it a little bigger, but not by too much IMO. I like small maps

those screenshots aren't really doing anything to pique my interest at all. i heard it was a pretty shallow RTS as well. No thanks.

Great, DLC for a game nobody plays.

Weak.. Those who got ripped of with Strategic Options should get this for free as compensation. Those games modes are horrible - CTF is all about vampires, Tug of Wars is all about rushing, and the other one is all about luck. I would hope that this map pack is good, but i dont see any real point in them trying anymore, i loved halo wars, but the new modes put me off it, i even went out and bought Starcraft to occupy my RTS needs.

i just don't have the time to sit down and figure out how to stop the crazy rushing i get now. i barley have time to think let alone do much before i'm run over by hunters and gauss hogs. kinda turns me off from the game when i suck so bad lol
