Over at the NeoGAF boards there's a thread looking at Gigazine's coverage (in Japanese) of a small Dragon Quest press event that took place in Tokyo. There's no exhaustive English translation of the entire event, because there are only two facts you really need to know.
The Dragon Quest series, if you don't know, has been one of the biggest things going in Japan for, oh, two decades now. So this is pretty big news...but I'm sure it doesn't surprise anyone. The franchise has always had a history of hanging out on the most popular platforms--first on the NES and Super NES, then PlayStation, then PS2, and now the Nintendo platforms.
No developer was listed for DQX on the Wii, but I hope Level-5 is on it. They apparently did a great job with DQVIII and I've really enjoyed some of their other games. Come to think of it, Level-5 might be the only Japanese RPG house I can really get excited about these days. They really make a quality product.
- Dragon Quest X was announced for the Wii.
- Dragon Quest IX, the DS game we already knew about, is hitting shelves in Japan on March 28.
