Ed Harris, Gary Oldman Join Call of Duty: Black Ops Cast

Stand down, captain. Failure is not an option!

Activision is injecting some Hollywood talent into Call of Duty: Black Ops. The publisher has announced, according to a GI.biz report, that notable thespians Ed Harris and Gary Oldman will each voice a character in the shooter. Activision has also revealed that Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Jumper scriptwriter David S. Goyer is the man behind the game's script.

Oldman will reprise his role as the pipes of Viktor Reznov, a character he also voiced in World at War. Harris will speak through CIA agent Jason Hudson's digital mouth in the game.

In the film world, Harris' most touching role was that of Brigadier General Francis X. Hummel in The Rock, a heartfelt flick packed with raw emotion and VX gas. Oldman, on the other hand, is still most recognized for his role as the disfigured pedophile Mason Verger in Hannibal

In a statement, Treyarch head honcho Mark Lamia said the two actors "complement Call of Duty: Black Ops' ambitious and immersive single-player experience." He added that the duo have helped Treyarch "push the boundaries" of its storytelling "beyond anything [it has] ever attempted before in the franchise."

Here's to hoping that means Jason Hudson will be tricked into cutting his own face off.

It's good to see they are not using a different voice acter for Reznov. Oldman did a great job overall in World at War.

I thought Oldman would be best known for playing Commission Gordon.  I forgot he was in Hannibal.  Good actor and writer announcements though.

It's one of my favorite Gary Oldman quotes, from The Professional.  I'm sure I've butchered the specifics.

I know Gary Oldman best from The Professional. He played an amazingly awesome bad cop in that movie. This news is getting me really excited for Black Ops because I've enjoyed the single player campaigns in all the Call of Duty games a lot.

If Gary Oldman says "FIRE THE PANZERSHREK" just one time in Black Ops it will be too soon. Surely I'm not the only one that noticed how Reznov repeats that line every 10 seconds in the Reichstag mission in WaW.

"  Oldman, on the other hand, is still most recognized for his role as the disfigured pedophile Mason Verger in Hannibal."

I have to say that is total BS...

Verger is surely not Oldman's most recognisable role, claiming so is a real disservice to one of the finest actors of the past few decades.

I didn't realize that Oldman was in World at War. If he played who I think he did, that makes me like him a little bit less.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Zorg, or the guy from Leon, are FAR more recognized Gary Oldman references than Mason Verger..   I've seen Hannibal on tv 3 or 4 times, never knew it was oldman..

Then again, some people didn't even know he was Commissioner Gordon..

They got a hollywood script writer for the single player?

Activision sure knows how to throw money at the franchise. It makes me wonder why they even bother putting effort into it. I mean, the slight upgrades in WAW still managed to sell millions of copies.

Awesome. Two very great actors. I really love Ed Harris' speech in Gone, Baby, Gone, and Gary Oldman was perfectly psychotic in The Professional (AKA Leon). Oh, and I'm totally delighted that Reznov is back. He was one of the best things about World at War.

Also, there's no way Gary Oldman is most recognized for Hannibal. Clearly he's most recognized from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

"Activision has also revealed that Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Jumper scriptwriter David S. Goyer is the man behind the game's script. "

I'm disturbed to find that the guy that wrote the scripts for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight also wrote the script for Jumper. That movie was complete garbage.

I was very doubtful about Black Ops from the beginning. I felt Treyarch was just yanking my chain when they said they were gonna take a multiplayer a very different direction but they actually ended up doing what they said with the whole COD points thing and some refinements to make it more skill based and less casual than MW2. They said there would be more stealth in the campaign which is fine by me as I loved all of the stealth missions in COD4 and MW2. Hopefully this game turns out well.
