Good News, Bad News, Confusing News About Star Fox 64 3D

You'll be able to play against your friends, just don't expect to do so online. What? Yeah.

Star Fox 64, aka the best Star Fox.
Star Fox 64, aka the best Star Fox.

While the lack of new content has me cautious about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (ahem, not to mention the distinct lack of Majora's Mask), I could, however, go for a little more Star Fox in my life. Andriasang was following Japanese retailer Shibuya's Twitter feed during a Nintendo retail conference in Japan, wherein some new wrinkles about Star Fox 64 3D came out. Take a deep breath.

For one, the game will feature a 3DS mode, N64 mode and Battle mode. It's unclear whether the visuals revert to the original Nintendo 64 stylings during N64 mode, but that'd be a neat option. The differentiator may, however, refer to controls, as in 3DS mode, you're controlling the Arwing with 3DS' gyroscope. Players who were rightfully worried about forced motion controls can calm down.

As you might imagine, Battle mode refers to multiplayer, with Star Fox 64 3D supporting four players simultaneously. You'll even be able to send a temporary copy of the game to a nearby 3DS to increase the player count via download play. Buuuuuuut here comes the real bummer: there's no online support.

What? Argh. Dammit, Nintendo. I know, I know, I shouldn't have such high expectations, but still. Still.

Argh.

" Having an online component isn't exactly high expectations these days..it's standard. Getting new IPs from Nintendo instead of remaking their entire 64 library - that's a high expectation. "
With comments like these it is no wonder there was once a Wii defense squad.

Nintendo don't have as much experience with online yet, they focus on videogames, but they are getting there. Looking forward to it.
Nintendo have new IPs, many Japan-only. But people only seem to see Mario, Zelda and Metroid.
Remakes is for new gamers and fans like me.

Lots of people are, but not enough people. Me, for instance. I have played every Pokemon version except for Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, and Black. And I plan on playing all of those, once I get around to buying them.

Ah yes its Nintendo at it again "Hey buy this game we made along time ago please back when we matterd" Maybe one day they will start doing something new instead of just selling the same game  over and over.

You know what sucks, this whole time the Wii has been out and yet no new Star Fox game, just re-releases of the N64 version. It's like Nintendo just doesn't trust anybody with the IP ever since Namco released that mediocre Star Fox Assault. Maybe if they got Retro Studios on it.

Star Fox & multiplayer, great now there's 4x the amount of hearing about needing to do a barrel roll.

If you really thinks that is the case, you need to pay more attention.

I don't care about multiplayer but I do care a lot about Starfox 64.  Easily one of the best games ever.

Never played the original so I'm really excited, I usually love classics from the early polygonic era.

the local temporary copy-spawning for multiplayer seems like a really cool feature.

Well, I thought Star Fox Command was pretty good, but it wasn't really what I was hoping for in a new Star Fox.

Nintendo always drops the ball on features. It's in their nature.

i haven't considered a hand-held for a long time..

star fox and ocarina of time have definitely changed that..
some nostalgic gaming on the morning commute has me real excited.

though i'll always remember Star Fox 64 as "Lylat Wars"
