Hmm, have been on the fence, but paying for online was a reason I stopped playing my 360, seems like I will not be a early adopter for either system. PC dont fail me now.

I wonder how commoditization is going to effect the shelf life of both the PS4 and Xbox One

I mean, it really shouldn't be a shock. Eventually XBLGold and PSN+ were going to find something akin to feature parity. Today they did. We shall see if it holds. A ways to November!

Now, let's get real for a moment here...

Microsoft is pretty much fucked already, right? Assuming the "used games fee" and "always online" fiascoes are built into the system itself (and therefore irreversible), what could they possibly do now to avoid getting crushed this November by the Tretton Machine?

Sure, they could match the PS4's price, but that would only make the Xbox One a slightly cheaper disaster.
Aside from a few exclusives (some of which looked pretty goddamn good), everything the Xbox One does the PS4 can do better, and in a cheaper package.

I'm genuinely curious as to what Microsoft could do at this point, if anything.

Well the ENTIRE time I was like "Calm down Internet, we don't know much about the PS4. MS just told us more about their policies than Sony did".

That's not parity, PS+ still gives way more for less and is not required for Netflix and the likes. It may be a step back from PS3 in that regard but still better than Xlive Gold.

Well, hate to say this due to it being already well known, but Microsoft and the Xbox One really got destroyed by Sony and the PS4 today. Looks like I shall be getting a PS4 this holiday season.

Is there anybody still leaning towards the Xbox One? I'M CURIOUS.

Microsoft shoulda thought about those consequences because Microsoft done goofed.

@woggerman1974: Do you know how to count? Xbone is 499$ + 1 year of gold which they havent announced the price but atm it is 60$ so that is 559$. Then ps4 is 399$ and ps+ is 60 so 459$. So still a 100$ difference learn to count.
