    Augmented Reality

    Concept »

Real world information improved in some way by the inclusion of computer generated data. Typically done using a virtual overlay on a real image.

Augmented reality involves information overlays that are introduced using projected or transparent displays to provide situational awareness. Given the awkwardness and expense of existing AR equipment, commercially available AR applications and games utilize common displays and webcams, such as those available on smart phones. Since it is paramount that AR overlays are registered to the user's specific perspective, these initial commercial attempts suffer from a degree of abstraction.
