Bad news for gamers who grew up on the Battlefield series, but didn't spring for a console for the recent Battlefield 1943: The PC version of the game has been delayed to next year. Maybe it's a good thing seeing how the Battlefield series on the PC have a long history of being quality products. But for many PC gamers the question of "why" may be ringing in their heads. Is it to avoid certain competing against some big titles coming up? Are there licensing issues with the game? Or maybe DICE wants to avoid the rocky start they had for the console release.

BF 1943's producer put a little light on the situation when he talked to G4:

We haven't released a Frostbite [DICE's game engine] built game on PC, so going into this project we lacked a starting foundation we had on Console. There are also many different and unique only challenges to the PC that has lead to us pushing the release even further to Q1 CY 2010 [early next year]. This was a hard pill to swallow, but it was absolutely needed to ensure the features and functionality that PC Players have come to expect from Battlefield on PC are not missing. Things like support for DirectX 9 and 10, higher player count (up to 32-player matches), wide peripheral support i.e. Joysticks for flying, VoIP, and ranked server provider hosting. So it was and still is the absolutely right decision, for quality sake, to not release until it is ready.

You know what that means, it means I'm gonna get it on my console of choice rather than wait.

Why bother releasing 1943 on PC? If given the choice, any PC gamer would choose a mainline BF game.

1943 is barely any better than BC was anyway..they once again don't even let you prone, and on top of that simplified everything so damn much.If when BF3 finally comes out and its the same direction they've been going in since Bad Company, I've lost complete faith in Dice to make a good BF game. Because ANY BC game, is not a BF game at all..and neither is 1943 really.

Oh, that is too bad. Well, this is still not true PC Battlefield in the first place so I don't see it being of great use on the PC. It was optimized for consoles and they should just release BF3 or something along the lines of that.
