I hate it with a passion. Getting killed through a bunch of bushes from a mile away because somebody seen a icon and started shooting at it is bullshit.@scarace360 said:

I am alright with 3D spotting as long as it does not follow the target.
I mean, 3D spotting makes sense because it simulates combat communication.
for example: 2 dudes are in a firefight, dude A says to dude B "Hey there's a bad guy behind that rock, shoot him ! " and a market is placed on that location, dude B sees the marker and thinks "oh that rock ! I should totally shoot in that direction and suppress that enemy."
Problem is it follows you. Which is crazy!@scarace360 said:

I've often wondered (while playing BFBC2) whether they've tried to balance out the spotting with the fact that it doesn't "take" 2/3 of the time. Can't tell you how many times I've been turned into swiss cheese while I'm hammering the "spot" button at some enemy soldier or tank I've noticed on the map. I figure it's about even chance as to whether it's intentionally janky.
Commo rose in BF2 was awesome. Yeah it can get abused but no more so than lots of other things IMO."You are the finest squad I have ever set eyes on"
I'm afraid there's still the 'tanks have regenerating armour' battle yet to come. We might not make it through this one alive. Can everyone STFU now? Are we all cool?
I still firmly believe 3d spotting is the most effective way to counter camping I've ever seen in a shooter.

I've had the best crazy discussion (Crazy as in: Proper discussions with neither side flinging racism and/or poo in the face of another.) with Ahmad today and I'd like to post a snippet from that discussion here to point out as to why I'm so indifferent to the 3D spotting.
Sjupp: On paper, 3D spotting is fucking awful. It just lights up peoples locations through everything if you happen to look in their direction and press a button.
Sjupp: In practice (based on my own BF3 Alpha experience) It's not that bad. It's only bad in the park where there are lot of foliage. You can spot through foliage but not see through it. That sucks. I have almost never found it a problem anywhere else on the map. I really mean that. I have rarely any problems with it at all and that's why I'm perfectly cool with it being in game.
Sjupp: Now to suppressive fire
AhmadMetallic.: yes
Sjupp: On paper, this is a fucking amazing feature. Suppressive fire is one of the cornerstones of teamplay. It would make "OKAY COVER ME I'M MOVING UP" actually fucking real! Teamplay would be fucking doubled or something
Sjupp: In practice, it's hardly noticable. I think I thought once to myself when playing BF3 Alpha (Oh, I'm being suppressed). It's such an underwhelming feature in the game it's sad.
AhmadMetallic.: i guess thats why i dont care about it
Sjupp: And that's sort of why I don't care about 3D spotting
@Sjupp:
Going on just the alpha map isn't a conclusive enough way to evaluate the 3D spotting in BF3, though. We've seen it in many other maps in BC2 where it certainly was a problem.
Woah, really? That's great news!
I hope it's a proper commo rose like in BF2/2142, where you just have to flick your mouse in a direction to highlight the command, instead of like in BFHeroes/BFP4F where a cursor pops up and you have to navigate it to a specific box to select it.
edit: as for 3D spotting, it only really made sense in 2142 where they had helmets with huds on the inside of the face masks. It definitely needs tweaking. It should only show up on your squad's hud, unless you have a gadget equipped that makes it visible for your whole team.
2142 made it awesome with all the gadgets that could modify it. There was a handheld scanner that, up to 10 or so meters away, would highlight the position of every enemy within your vision cone behind one wall (but not two or more) for your squad at the moment it was used, and the dots would not follow the targets. Great for coordinating attacks, but not overpowered.
