Like in this promo video from the game? i cant find any videos on youtube other then this one. which makes me sad. when i saw this video (after the beta) i was excited to see at least that thing could fall over. yet i like to think someone would have posted a video of it.
Battlefield 3
Game » consists of 15 releases. Released Oct 25, 2011
Battlefield 3 is DICE's third numerical installment in the Battlefield franchise. It features a single player and co-operative campaign, as well as an extensive multiplayer component.
Has anyone blown up the tower in Caspian border yet?
A group tried last night I was talking to. C4, tanks, everything. They bombarded it and it didn't fall. That's kinda bullshit because DICE confirmed THAT very specific tower could be destroyed. Maybe there is something to it?
A couple of people from the official forums tried an entire round with C4 and tank shells to destroy it, and then tried to blow up the support wire bases.
Nothing.
@Metal_Mills: It's actually destructible in a mission in the single player campaign a little after halfway through. I have no idea if it's something scripted though or if it fell from damage I did.
I'm really quite disappointed with destruction in Battlefield 3. I never expected to bring down the buildings in "Seine Crossing" or landscape the hills in "Caspian Border", but it just seems like they took a lot of destruction out. Or maybe it was never there to begin with. I think a lot of the marketting for this game has gone to great lengths in exaggerating the facts of what players can expect. I know that happens all the time, but this is the first in a long run that I feel it has been applied to such an extent. I kind of feel mislead and duped. Especially after the polish and deliverence of the two DICE releases that preceeded Battlefield 3, Mirror's Edge and Bad Company 2.
The maps are still killer and a lot of fun though. Probably the best suite of maps in a Battlefield release.
I wish the level of destruction that you got in Bad Company was in this. It would be really awesome to start an urban map just to end with all the buildings destroyed from the battle. Maybe in Bad Company 3was (I don't doubt one will come out. Why would DICE insert a cliffhanger in BC2 just to abandon the franchise).
How in the world did they actually DOWNGRADE from Bad Co 2 to Battlefield 3? Did they build a new engine from the ground up? Because everything sure looks pretty damn similar, why is there no serious destruction that is not scripted?

Because its no fun playing BF with a completely levelled map.
Oh, you are right. I am so glad you said that, or else I wouldn't have known that. It is so helpful to visit these forums in order to gain important information and thoughtful, nuanced opinions. Please play more video games so you can tell me what to think about them too.
Istill don't get people complaining about "lack of destruction". We were playing on the NA GB BF3 server last night and it was glorious to see, for example, the gas station utterly and completely demolished.
Yeah, a couple hits won't flatten a building like a pancake, but that's fine. It should take some effort. I hate the whole "two shots and the building tumbles over" thing.
As for the tower? Damn, I have seen people throw a hell of a lot at it and . . . nothing.
This isn't his opinion though, that's the reasoning DICE used. Of course Battlefield 3 could have the same level of destruction as the BC games, but when a map is completely flat after 5 minutes of playing it can get pretty unbalanced and cover gets ropey.@BruceLeet said:

@Humanity: I've played 4000 ticket Heavy Metal Conquest fairly frequently, and for as bad as I think that map is, it's great to hide in the rubble of a building and take out an Apache/Hind with an RPG as it flies over trying to kill everyone on the point. Long before a round is over, every building has been leveled and it's just madness all the time, which is super fun.

No, that is my opinion that's why I wrote it.
Then it's both your opinion, mine and DICE's. Cool.@Jack268: @Jack268 said:

Yay for opinions!
yes, I have destroyed it twice, but It took some work to do. Im trying to figure out which caused it, c4 or the jet, or when I did both, but it all way's falls at the end of the round when I do it.
@big_jon: It's mostly just scaled back because of bugs. I do agree that Bad Company seemed to have this sorted out much better. All of the Karkand maps have almost full destruction of every building (barring the very tall vantage points). Hopefully some patching can sort this stuff out. The beta allowed things like creating craters in the map to hide in, but they have all been seemingly disabled for the time being.
true about the craters (They were great for cover), but that also led to assholes "falling" under the map to farm kills. Specifically at site A on the first stage of Metro.

One of the developers at DICE actually answered this, he stated that the better graphics, new air vehicles, and large maps meant that they had to scale down the Destruction to keep the game operating at a reasonable level. I too miss the excellent destructability of past titles, but it was a decision that was made in the interests of keeping the game appealing.

What this guy said! I think that blowing shit up is freaking amazing, but there wouldn't be any strategy if there was an MCOM station in a building and instead of having to plan an entrance into the building, someone just said "Break out the C4, this bitch is coming down!"
@UberExplodey: Yeah, that happened to me a lot. This is also why DICE disabled all that. I think it is safe to assume it is still there, and may make a come back. I'm just thinking they are working on patching all the other bugs before addressing something like this.

That was the one thing that pissed me off in BFBC2. People would just take down the buildings with C4 and mortars.

I SEEN IT FALLING TODAY BUT I DONT KNOW HOW?!?!?!
Apparently it happens when RU team has 10 tickets remaining :)
Vid to prove it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78kAdecmBGY
You are correct that it falls because of tickets. I'm not sure it matters which side you are on but I have seen it fall more times then I can count and it is cool every time. I believe that I read it falls when one team drops below 20 tickets. Also this video seems to support that as it begins falling when RU has 14 tickets left. I have never seen it fall from direct attacks from players.

I was playing last night on my PS3, and I would like to confirm (at least from my own observation) that I have seen the tower destroyed.
Same here, the thing almost hit me and it scared the hell out of me!
I thought "The fuck was that noise?" Then, boom. :P
I can't say for sure if it was a game of RUSH but it probably was, now that I think about it.
