Hey everyone. This is a very important and essential message/thread that will help me as a community organizer and server owner shape the future of our Battlefield 3 activities.
I really hope that you read and reply if you own the game on PC because this will help me immensely.
It's been four months since I've migrated the community from BC2 to BF3, hundreds of you enlisted and we rented our very own Giant Bomb 64-slot Battlefield 3 server.
During these months we've reached 390 Giant Bomb members in the Steam group and the ID list on the main thread, occupy four Battlelog platoons, and to this day, four months after release, we still have good numbers of us playing together, tens of us enjoying the chats and the gameplay banter on our Mumble voice server, and we occasionally reach full capacity on the server.
You are not supposed to play only when the guy in charge is around. Let's say that a hundred of the ~400 BF3 owners of this community stopped playing the game/sold their copy/ have work or school / are playing other games,
What about the remaining 300? Are you guys listening? If we drop 100 of us as "unavailable" we still have around three hundred of us who, based on our Platoons stats, my Battlelog friends feed and my Steam friends list, are still active players.
So how come that just THIRTY out of the THREE hundred can't jump on and play? The server fills itself with randoms from there, all you need is thirty people to start.
This is very curious to me. In my past Battlefield 2 clans which didn't have more than 100-200 members, it was very easy for us to jump on and play on our own servers, pushing the server halfway up the server browser and letting the randoms/regulars do the rest.
Why is it not the case with this game?
I'm friends with most of our BF3 players, always contacting you personally on Steam and Battlelog and helping you fix the various technical issues you may have, so I'm still on a personal level asking you guys, is something wrong?
I think it's the myth that servers are "impossible to fill." Everyone feels like it's such an unreachable achievement to gather and fill the server. Then I start inviting people, next thing you know the server has 50-60 players for eight hours straight all through the night, and then the next day we're back to the belief that servers are "impossible to fill."
People, we have a voice server that has 10-15 regulars on a daily basis, up to 30 on BF3/other game bombing runs. We have a mIRC chatroom that is dedicated to the PC Gaming Hub, all you need to do is jump on and you'll be met by many friendly giant bomb duders who just wanna have a good game.
All you have to do is jump on with other duders. It all starts from there. We get the server full by starting 8v8 games, it always goes up.
My aim here is to make sure each and every one of you, who want to join our games and have a good time and a good chat, to be able to do so and for this to be a habit rather than a rarity that only happens when I invite people personally.
Let's establish a healthy, dedicated and mature Battlefield community here, folks.
The two threads that contain everything you need to know about the BF3/PC gamer community of Giant Bomb members:
- BF3 thread with server info, voice server info and ID list - Stickied on the BF3 forums.
- PC Hub thread with gamenight schedules for a variety of games and the info to our mIRC chatroom.
Looking forward to your replies and responses, guys.
