    Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the second installment in this spin-off Battlefield series. It has a more serious campaign and a vastly expanded multiplayer system.

    Just ordered the game, question about vip packs.

    Will i have to pay for them because i'm buying the game so late, or do you get them for free because you buy the game new? Also, if i won't be getting the vip packs for free, is it worth it to buy them?

    Nope, as long as you bought the game new, you'll get the VIP code. :) 
     
    With the VIP code, you'll get additional maps, i think it's already around 6 extra maps now and more to come in the future.
     
    Welcome to the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 community, it's a really awesome game.  And perfect timing for you too, since servers were already fixed recently and the game is now back to its lag-free awesome state. :)

    Not to sour the experience, but calling them 'new maps' is a bit of a misnomer, considering all the maps that they have released for free through their VIP service are simply making existing maps available for other game types. So although you are getting a 'new map' to play for say, Squad Deathmatch (who plays this anyways?) or whatever, it is an existing map from a different game type that has been slightly modified for the game type's objective using all the same map assets.

    What the hell are VIP packs? Is this some sort of console thing? that they can charge more money for?
