The eleventh installment of the Call of Duty franchise (and the first spearheaded by Sledgehammer Games) brings modern military thirty years into the future, as new technology (including powered exoskeleton frames and cloaking devices) makes a certain Private Military Corporation the dominant military force of the world.
I'm suddenly interested in COD again
It's probably actually some dude sitting in the grass or running towards the camera or something.
At this point, "Call of Duty: Jurassic Park" might not be enough to make me care if the gameplay still consists of super-linear do-exactly-what-the-yelling-NPC-says design. Being told precisely what to do, where to do it, when to do it, and how to do it just got old.
...and I wrote that, completely forgetting that most people actually buy these games for multiplayer, at which point I still don't think I'd jump back into CoD when I'd much rather play Titanfall.
Private Military Companies + Dinosaurs. Blackwater sure went crazy in the future, I guess..
I'm hoping they're not planning on having you play as a PMC because romanticising PMCs is pretty gross, Activision.
At least MGS made them the bad guys.
I'm still way more interested in next year's game, which is Treyarch's, I assume. Well, that's assuming that they keep doing the branching story stuff, or build off of that, which would be cool.
Unless it has hella dinosaurs in it. Then I might...

At least that way they could rename the series to "Call of Cash" which would work on so many levels.
While im mostly looking forward to Treyarch's next game (i really like Blops 2) hopefully sledgehammer can add their own twist, Dinosaurs could be neat but future PMCs seems like it can be bland. I was hoping that the WW1 rumors i was hearing about were true....would love a ww1/ww2 game again.
is this not just a #shotsfired at EA marketing for all of the Dinosaur material included in battlefield?
Thats a raptor and possibly a blurry Denzel Washington from Book of Eli in the background. Calling it right now.
@somberowl: I don't really care about that. But hearing Kevin Spacey is playing the villain has me interested.

Really, romanticizing war in the first place is pretty gross.

It's just going to be Frank Underwood isn't it? God that would be great. Call of Duty: House of Cards.
@bwheeeler: HOLY SHIT IT IS! Frank Underwood is going to kill every single protagonist you play as.
@itwongo: I'd forgotten about that thread. I-is it actually happening?
I'm pretty kind of interested despite myself? I guess we'll see Sunday, but Call of Duty is still so big and still so fun enough.
oh my god, they actually found a thing to make me back super interested in call of duty by putting basically fucking Frank Underwood as the villain.
@somberowl: You're kidding right? Tell me you don't believe that? I hope you people don't really believe this.
In more believable news, here's what Polygon posted of the same picture:

There has already been an evil PMC in the past Modern Warfare games and the teaser doesn't exactly show them in a positive light, they'll most likely be the baddies in this one.
Trailer leaked. Kevin Spacey. That is all.
Oh my. Whatever anyones thoughts on Ghosts were that's a god damn good looking/interesting looking game. I dunno why but I get a touch of Binary Domain from the trailer.
Next gen Spacey.
@redbullet685: yeah I like me some Kevin spacey... I might check this out. I haven't touched a CoD since black ops

^^ I agree with all of this. Campaign spectacle isn't enough to make it worth drudging through the boring "follow me and do this" gameplay loop.
The multiplayer hasn't been especially great since CoD4, either. Throwing more unlockables or a slightly different progression at it doesn't make it play better.
my interest is piqued. Ill probably be keeping an eye on COD for the first time in years
It feels weird that no video game tackled this without being jingoistic. And it's not just being cynical, it's being smarter...... man kinda amazed I'm hyped for a CoD game, even Modern Warfare 1 took me a while to get into until my friends gave me positive feedback on it.
Advanced Warfare is kind of a brilliant name.
Yeah, that's what I was going to say. No numbers, just a statement of "Hey, remember Modern Warfare? This is advanced from that".
Still not excited enough to ever want to pay $60 for another explosion-filled heavily-scripted shooting gallery of a campaign and the same twitchy multiplayer that the series has always had, but maybe this will make up for the apparent bummer that was COD Ghosts.
Everything about this game is irrelevant as long as the game design and the interactivity are as linear and shallow as ever, using the same goddamn ancient game engine.
They're serving us a a cold uncooked meal for the 15th time on the same dirty moldy tray, it doesn't MATTER what the story behind this meal is, it stinks very badly and can no longer be eaten.
@somberowl: Me too.Looking forward to it.
I like Call of Duty, the stories are stupid and they have bad half-baked ideas. But, overall I like playing the multiplayer. But, Jesus, all of this just looks REALLY, REALLY bad. And, I'm sure people tried really hard, they had good intentions of making something interesting and fun, but it just so agonizing bad.
I'm not sure who some of you folks who like this are? Are you plants by some media company to hype the game? Are you just people with really terrible taste? I really cannot fathom how anyone can look at what has been leaked so far, and think any of it is beyond the worst drivel every slapped together. And, like I said, I struggle becauses it is obvious people worked on this and did their best...they worked hard on this...but it just such a terrible swing & miss.
...Every gambler knows
That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner
And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for
Is to die in your sleep"
You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
...Its is time to fold'em and run Activision
@monkeyking1969: Cause it looks like a fun future shooter with mechs, hover bikes, exoskeletons and other silly things that look cool but most games don't have?
Sorry, have we offended you or something?
