Modern Warfare 2 Exceeded Expectations!!
Modern Warfare 2 Review
First off, it's hard to top a game like Call of Duty 4. Infinity Ward not only matched it but took it to new levels of cinematics and game play. There are three core elements of Modern Warfare 2. These include Campaign, Multi-player, and Special Operatives (Spec-ops for short).
The single player of cod was indeed one of the best FPS campaigns I've ever played. It ranks among the gods like Half-Life and Far Cry. The few major complaints that gamers had for cod 4 was that the campaign was too short and it lacked co-op. Infinity Ward acknowledged these complaints while creating this game. Although the campaign isn't much longer than it's older siblings, It packs more of a punch. IW knew that the best mission of cod 4 was the Chernobyl Sniper mission. For MW2 they added multiple stealth based missions. Already making progress on cod 4. Another thing gamers hated about cod 4 was the infinite enemy re-spawn during missions. In the previous game, there were a few missions where the enemies would constantly re-spawn until you move up and make progress. In this game, if you killed everyone, YOU HAVE KILLED EVERYONE. You can then sprint forward and not have to worry about being killed by some douche bag who spawns in the corner. IW also added some blood splatter to the screen compared to the "veiny" red screen you get in cod 4. This gives it a more authentic feel as if you are actually getting shot. Of course, now, if you're getting shot at, it is much more difficult to recover because it's harder to see your enemies. IW took this into consideration and added just enough health to your character to allow you to retreat and recover. Now too address the length of the game. Gamers have been bitching about how short these two game are. Let me clear that up now. The best movies in the world are around 2 to 2 and a half hours long. They were not 9 or 10 hours. IW took the same approach with this game. They wanted to make the game feel like you're playing an interactive movie. The IW games have always done a great job of sucking gamers in. They could have easily made the game twice as long. But then with the massive amount of action involved in MW2 the game would then seem over the top. By keeping the game short, they have increased the re-playability. Last but not least, CO-OP. They didn't want to include campaign co-op because then it took away from the immersive element of the game. Gamers would then be focused on talking with friends rather than the game itself. This is why they included a completely different objective based co-op gametype called SPEC-OPS.
Spec-Ops was a great addition to the game. Achieving 69 stars in Spec-Ops, is pretty damn tough. If gamers do get bored of the campaign they can hook up some co-op with their friends. This is where it gets really fun. All you have to do read the objective and then you can talk to your buddies all you want. Best part is, it has nothing to do with the story so you don't really even have to pay attention (unless you're on veteran then yeah you have to pay attention if you don't want to die). Much more fun than it sounds, trust me. Give it a shot and you'll love it.
Multiplayer can be described with one word....AMAZING!!! CoD4, in my opinion, had the best multiplayer experience of it's generation. MW2 just took it to new heights. You are able to use a F***ING AC-130 in F***ING MULTIPLAYER. Some players just weren't good enough to get a 7 kill streak in CoD4 so they never really had a good K/D ratio because they rarely got a chopper to help them out. Now you can customize your kill streaks, so instead of a default 3,5,7 streak set, you can set it to 3,4,5 to help yourself out. Or if you're amazing at the game, you can set it to 5,7,11 where the 11 is where you gun from an AC-130 and annihilate the enemies below. But if you're a Call of Duty god and is capable of getting a 25 kill streak...you will get a Tactical Nuke. Yeah that's right a F***ING tactical NUKE!!!!! You use it and you wipe out the entire map along with the enemy team...automatic win FTW...yeah that's redundant get over it!!!
In conclusion, IW took a perfect game in CoD4 and improved it in so many ways. A perfect game receives a 5-star rating in my book. But when you add amazing game-types, game-play, and improved graphics to a 5-star game it really earns a 6/5...but, sadly, there is no option for a 6th star. Buy this game and enjoy it for 2 years because nothing is going to come close to it until CoD8.
