Ryu needs twenty dollars to make him holler.
Ryu needs twenty dollars to make him holler.
Capcom wants to welcome you to the wonderful world of plastic cards that can be exchanged for goods and services with a prepaid debit card bearing pictures from Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV, or Bionic Commando. Sadly, there's no word on if you can recharge the cards using Zenny.

The cards bear the Visa logo and can be recharged with more credit online. Using them at Capcom's online store will get you a discount, and the publisher is setting up some sort of rewards program where you'll be able to exchange points earned from card use on auctions. Some of the examples provided include "an all-expense paid trip to major video gaming events, be written into a game, have lunch with a game producer and much more."

I went to the card's site to sign up for one, but chickened out once I got to the part where they want you to kick down $9.95 for the card and want you to charge it up with at least $10. I'm all for having a goofy Street Fighter IV card just for kicks, but that's not something I'd ever actually use.

How about you? Do you see yourself in need of some kind of debit card? They always claim these things are great for parents, because they could give these to their kids instead of cash to ensure that kids are buying goods and services (like sandwiches and action figures) instead of blowing all the cash on awesome stuff like drugs and prostitutes. Either way, it's not exactly the sort of move you'd immediately expect out of a game publisher.

Having worked retail at circuit city and a liquor store I can personally tell everyone that we don't care what you have on your card from Hitler to Puppies as long as it works and doesn't give us alot of trouble. Anyway, I get a better rewards program with my Amex.

I'm all for video-game-related novelty crap. Well, at least the cheap stuff, like GTA IV gift cards loaded up with a whopping 25 cents. But 20$? Nope.

Yeah, paying 10 bucks to have a card that holds your money is pretty dumb.  Plus most banks will let you print your own card out now with any image you want so you can make your own.  Not worth it.

I would love to get a video game debit card, but I want it linked to my account, not prepaid.  What am I, 10?

I saw that advertisement in the Street Fighter 4 box, but I didn't pay close enough attention to it to realize it wasn't an actual credit card. Isn't there some credit card company that lets you use your own picture on the card? I wonder if they would care if you used a copyrighted pic. Probably, but I wonder if some office worker reviewing your submission would recognize Ryu?

Not interested at all.  Unless the card had Mega Man on it, in which case I *might* pony up $20 and then never use it again.  $30 if it was Elec Man.

The expense is not that bad, I don't see why you chickened out. This is cool collectors fare for any SF fan.

I like the idea of making videogame purchases with it... I'm going to get the PC version also when that comes out, if I was to go into my local videogame store and use one of these to purchase it, man would be the coolest customer they ever had that day lol.

If they have an Akuma one I might be tempted.

I've got a pre-paid card from USAA. Which is awesome because it means I can buy all my stuff online. These actually are great for parents (who are too lazy to pay allowance).

A Street Fighter card seems pretty cool, except I think mine's probably better. I recall Blizzard doing something crazy like this with WoW. It was like every dollar you spent got you $.01 towards your WoW subcription. I think that was a credit card though.

At first glance I was against this card.  Now I will get one, maybe buy a game or two to recoup the expense and see what kind of perks and actions Capcom sets up.  The way I look at it now being older is that some of the most highly regarded collectables involed hoops people didn't want to jump through or thought was nerdy.

15% off the store and 20% off the mall purchases might be pretty cool on release games.  Like SF4 and the Monster hunters coming out this year.

Here is the reason to use prepaid credit cards...

Cuban Cigars.  When you buy them from Canada, China or Japan its sometimes draws you some heat getting them through customs.  Insert the prepaid credit card.  Two words, Plausible Deniability.

I got one for my birthday and they charged me with all of these fees.  The ToU said that it would charge fees for 12 months but the costumer service lady said that they changed that policy to six months.

These things make no sense, why do they cost money when they get to hold the money you deposited into the card and get interest on it until you spend it?

    Dirty, dirty business.

Credit cards are the devil. Buying stuff with money you don't have is just wrong. Even Ryu and Ken can't save you from the repo man.
