Hi guys, I need your help once again.

My GF and I would like to play a game together matching this criteria:

• local, couch co-op for PC or PS3
• third person (over the shoulder or isometric, doesn't matter, can be 2d as well) camera
• preferably SINGLE SCREEN (no Split Screen)
• preferably story driven, open ended, not linear and hack and slash-y
• doesn't need to be fantasy setting, sci-fi or anthing else works great too
• lots of loot and character customization if possible, not just basic crap

Something like Fable II's co-op would be excellent (although the camera was not that great), but I don't think it works without GfWL...

Do you guys have any suggestions? Older games come in mind as well. If you can't think of any, then suggest some split screen ones I guess. Can't wait to buy another PC so we can play Divinity: Original Sin... That's gonna be great!

Sacred 2. Scared 3 is also 2 player couch coop, but the reviews haven't been good.

I haven't played it, but LOTR: War in the North.

And, lastly, Diablo III.

Edit: D3 for PS3. I don't think PC has couch coop.

The first game that comes to mind for me is Champions of Norrath, but it's a PS2 game, not a PS3/PC game. Couch coop kind of died off last gen.

Dungeon Siege III is a whole lot of fun for couch coop. It's definitely story and loot driven as well.

Sacred stinks. The answer is Diablo III

It doesn't have loot, and it's not really an RPG (although I seem to remember it had some sort of skill trees for the characters), but you could maybe check out Trine/Trine 2

Also, would Dragon's Crown be too "hack-and-slash"-y?

I like the Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance games but they are on PS2. Diablo 3 is probably the best choice if you only have a PS3 and PC.

Maybe try any of the Tales of Series of RPG's for story i suppose. Sure, world movement is delegated to one player but the combat can be two player. At least, from the last few games I've played. Rayman is a great 2D Co-op game.

We had a great time with Dungeon Siege III. Dropping in whenever kept me into it.

@mason20: @bbalpert: We played Trine 2 and Rayman Origins... Really fun and quirky co-op games. But RPGs maaaaan, they are few and far between...

RPGs are very rarely built with co-op in mind. And couch co-op is rare period these days. Once you start cutting out split-screen and hack-and-slash-y games you have very very slim pickings.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2.

If your PS3 is backwards compatible, you should definitely check out the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games.

A bunch of PS2 games had this. I don't know of any modern RPGs that do.

I remember I used to play Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance (the console Baldurs Gate games in general) a lot with friends and family members. Those games were great co-op.

I played Lord of the Rings: The Third Age co-op. That games real dumb in a great way.

If you like Diablo-likes, you have to play Champions of Norrath. It's a PS2 game but it is amazing for couch coop.

Diablo III on console is a great experience.

Tales of Symphonia is a JRPG on the gamecube and was primarily single player, but allowed for up to 3 people to control the other characters in battle. The camera still mostly follows Player 1 and can be trouble. You can stick them in the back casting spells to pull the camera out, but it's not as fun as the melee characters. Also it's.. on the gamecube. There are other 'Tales of' games on PS3 but I don't know if they all kept the co-op feature. You could also turn to emulation and play it on PC I guess. It's a pretty great game overall. Story and dialogue gets a bit cheesy but I really liked it.

If you wanna go really far back you could try Secret of Mana on SNES. It's always the first thing I think of when I see 'Co-op RPG'.

Definitely agree with the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games, particularly the first one, although I don't think the dlc characters are available for them anymore.

can you jump in any of these games... other then baldur gate?
