I'm not usually into survival horror games, but I am strangely attracted to Dead Space. Call me a pansy, but I don't really like to be too scared to play a game. Rate this game based on scariness.
Dead Space
Game » consists of 13 releases. Released Oct 14, 2008
Engineer Isaac Clarke battles a polymorphic virus-like alien infestation that turns human corpses into grotesque undead alien monsters called "Necromorphs" while trying to survive on board an infested interstellar mining ship named the USG Ishimura.
Just how scary is Dead Space?
Not even slightly frightening. The first chapter was quite scary but when you realise how the game works, it loses all sense of horror.
"Icemael said:Not overall, but some particular areas(dark, underground mazes full of giant ants...) were creepy as heck. I could go through just one of those ant hives, and it'd still be scarier than Dead Space in it's entirety."I think I jumped about three times, and that's all. Definitely the least scary horror game I've played - Fallout 3 was far scarier."
Really? Fallout 3? I wouldn't even consider that game scary."
"TekZero said:Definitely. With Fallout 3, there have been plenty of times where I have been totally on edge. Exploring an old abandoned factory, you have no idea what could be in there and if there is something in there, if it's going to be friendly or what but in Dead Space, you know that every few seconds, something is going to leap out of a vent or something and try to bite your head off."Icemael said:Not overall, but some particular areas(dark, underground mazes full of giant ants...) were creepy as heck. There were times when I jumped a little from a surprise, or times when I hesitated to walk down a hallway because I knew something was at the end of it, but other then that, it wasn't scary... Didn't lose sleep or anything.
Its a really great game, but if you're just looking for anything real scary, I would look elsewhere(Although there's never been a single game thats been scary imo, just doesn't do it in any kind of entertainment at all for me.) If you're just looking for a fun game, with good combat in a creepy environment, then definitely try it out.
"I found it scarier than any other game in the genre. I don't get scared by games but there were a lot of times where I was hesitant to go to the next area because of that weird nervousness you have waiting for monsters to jump at you. =P Good stuff."that is exactly how i fealt while i was playing through it,and i loved it.It is definitely worth a look.
"Icemael said:i must say I agree that Fallout 3 is scarier for me. While the town sections and wasteland parts don't scare me, rummaging through the subway system when a ghoul pops out of nowhere scared me more than all of Dead Space. That really isn't much of a problem though, because Dead Space gets by more on its action than anything else, which is excellent by the way."TekZero said:Definitely. "It startles you on occasion when an enemy jumps out at you, but it isn't particularly scary."This. There were a few times when I was not expecting an enemy and... WHAM!
Still playing through and, as difficult it is to admit it, on several occasions I was forced to change my underwear.
It's meant to be played in the dark I know that for sure, really feels better played that way.
But it's not scary, I'd describe it more as disturbing, but not scary. The first chapter pulls out all the stops, and you're pretty much get used to it from there.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it, it's an excellent game.
