So I think I want to get my 6 year old into this game, but it seems a bit impenetrable at the moment. With so much on the market, where should i start?

Do you want to wait on 3.0, or get 2.0 and upgrade it? If he's into Marvel, you could get to 2.0 box set, but if he likes Star Wars you should probably wait until the 3.0 set. I believe all the figures are forward compatible, but not backward compatible, so 1.0 figures work with 2 and 3, 2 works with 3, and 3 only works with itself.

That star wars stuff looks neat, if that's what he likes, wait for that!

They sell 'starter sets' so i'd say make that your first buy, and be ready to spend lots more money on additional stuff if he likes it.

Maybe some of the Lego games? Also, it maybe get a Wii? It's really inexpensive right now, and there are a billion good kids games for it, even stuff like Wii sports.

My nephew is 6 years old and loves playing 2.0 Marvel. The games are pretty similar to how the lego games play you just smash and collect things.
