I never played the first one, but as a FF fan it interested me. Throw in as many characters as the storage media will allow I say.

man, I wish it had been Hope or Vanille from FFXIII so I could beat them up...

 Looking forward to this a lot, the first was great but could have done with several improvements.. namely, a better story mode!  But unlike Kingdom Heats, the game really paid tribute to the series and seemed to really be made for the fans, not just 15 year old fangirls that don't know any of the characters prior to Tidus.
 
Hoping they continue the format and just bring in one new hero and one new villian from each of the games..  Though personally I'll be happy as long as we get Beatrix and Rubicante.  
 
We definitely need more female characters and bring the real Terra back please.  What they done to her was insulting and sexist.  It's one of the worst representations of females I've ever seen a game and made 10x worse by the fact she acted nothing like that in the original game.

The first game was solid.  They should just scrap the pretenses of a story and work on getting some more charachters. I want me some Red XIII!

PRetty happy for this.  I liked Dissidia, not just as fanservice but it was actually a fun game.  (better than that OTHER company's fanservice fighter).  I hope this keeps a pretty solid fighter while just expanding on the original more.
