    Background

Donkey-Me is a collection of movie themes that play with a Donkey Kong arcade game look, developed with the talented collaboration of Gryzor87, Jacobo Garca, Jaime Ribolleda, Toni Martn, Lucas Santillana and Locomalito. The freeware game is basically a Donkey Kong clone with several game modes (or skins) based on movies from the 80s and 70s. Each skin has different graphics, sound effects and music that changes according to the film it is based upon.

    Game Skins

There are 10 basic game skins based on films. The player's game character changes according to those skins and in some cases according to the level.

    • Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - Indiana Jones
    • Alien (1979) - Ellen Ripley
    • Star Wars (1977) - Luke Skywalker, Han Solo
    • Big Trouble in Little China (1986) - Jack Burton
    • First Blood (1982) , Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), Rambo III (1988) - John James Rambo
    • Flash Gordon (1980) - Flash Gordon
    • Total Recall (1990) - Douglas Quaid
    • Conan The Barbarian (1982) - Conan the Cimerian
    • Gremlins (1984) - Billy Peltzer
    • The Exorcist (1973) - Father Lankester Merrin, Father Damien Karras

    Gameplay

While each skin has very different graphics, sound and music, the basic gameplay is virtually the same one each mode and reminiscent of the original Donkey Kong.

    Difficulty and dangers

The actual game can be considered somewhat hard (specially among new school gamers) because of the classic basic old school mechanic. The player character can only take one hit before dying. Touching a chasing enemy, a 'boulder' or one of the obstacles will terminate the player life. Also falling from a level higher than the player's sprite will kill the character. However, new lives are available every 7000 points and the player gets points just for walking as well as for successfully jumping over an enemy (100 points).

    Bonus Marker

A bonus marker in the top right section of the game screen acts as a stage timer: It will decrease at each passing second in the stage and if the player has not finished the level when it reaches 0, he will loose his current life. On the other hand, finishing a stage very quickly will reward the player with thousands of points, which are useful for getting more lives.

    Special Attack Items

Each level has at least 2 special attack items which are floating above the second and upper platforms. Those items change according to each film skin (they can be knives, swords, axes, guns, flamethrowers, blasters, rifles, drills, etc), but they are based on the 'hammer' from the original Donkey Kong. To obtain an item the player only has to touch the item by jumping on it.

While using the attack item a different music soundtrack will begin and the player will be able to destroy incoming enemies and obstacles which will reward him with several points, but he can't jump or climb a ladder while using it.

Also, placing the character below a platform not higher than the player's sprite will enable him to destroy enemies above him. However, the item only lasts for a few seconds, so you have to be careful not to lose it while being too close to an enemy.

    Levels

There are 3 different basic stages on each level of every film skin. Completing those first three levels will reward the player with an end of level special screen and begin a new set of 3 harder stages, with different obstacles and different platform configurations each. A medal with the number of the completed level will appear in the upper part of the screen once it has been finished.

    Fruits

Besides the special attack items several different 'fruits' will appear floating in the platforms of each stage. These will reward the player with bonus points if obtained.
