    Let's just say that my current place of residence has zero respect for release dates

    Obviously only the single player is available, and I've played about 2 hours so far.

    It's really really fun. The game runs super smooth with nary a moment of stutter or lag. There are secrets to find, demons to shoot, and weapons to mod and upgrade.

    I think they really nailed it. Definitely feels like a modern Doom game!

    I thought that the glory kills would get real boring real fast, but man they are so satisfying to pull off. Really looking forward to 100% this game, and I think it will be in my permanent replay list.

    Also, this game has by far the best Easter egg in any game ever. Go ID!

    I'd be interested in the single player myself, I found the multiplayer to be a real disappointment from what I got to play. But I'm hearing decent things about the single player.

    @machofantastico: I think I read somewhere that the multi player was outsourced to another studio?

    Having played the beta and the single player now, I can tell you the difference in quality between the two is like night and day. Buy this game for the single player.

    @pompouspizza: I'm on the ps4, playing on Hurt me Plenty. Decently challenging and definitely a good starting point. Looking forward to playing at higher difficulty levels though!

    @machofantastico: I was initially worried about the game after hearing that review code wouldn't be available until the day of release but then I read somewhere that the same thing happened with Wolfenstein the New Order, and that game was fantastic.

    @humanity: I would say it's running super smooth like 99% of the time. I've experienced once noticeable moment of stutter at a "loading door", but that was it.

    @beachthunder: no, so far it's been pretty obvious (a dead corpse with the key card attached to it's vest). The game really focuses on constant action

    Do the levels/sections feel different from each-other? Is there variety?

    Have you played the new Shadow Warrior or Hard Reset? If so, how does it compare to those? I think those games (particularly Hard Reset) did a good job of the modern old-school FPS thing.

    @baronsamedi: it's less wave based and more arena based. There are these nests that you destroy, which spawns some waves around you, but you have a lot of room to maneuver.

    Beyond that, it's as doom as can be. Youre basically not shooting demons for a few moments at a time

    @conker: Right, after seeing the Nvidia 1080 demonstration being within a room where the doors all get locked and waves of enemies pour in I became a bit concerned. I've never been a fan of being locked into an area and you have to kill X enemies to continue. As long as your moving forward or backward it's all good, I just don't want to be staying in the one place.

    As someone who speedruns Doom, Doom II, and Master Levels, I'm curious about whether this game lends itself well to that. From what they had shown in that video a while back, it seemed like they had these gated points of "you have to kill all of these enemies in order to progress," which is kind of an antithesis to the old speedrunning capabilities of Doom and Doom II.

    So does it seem like you can do bare minimums, or are there those gated points? That would actually sadden me a bit, as it's one of the things that kept Doom and Doom II fresh to me for so long.

    Also, how is the level design? That has always been a massively important thing when it comes to Doom for me (and Doom 3 kind of failed on it for the most part, even though the atmosphere was great). Are we talking a more linear Doom kind of design or more towards the open arena stylings of Doom II? Mixture of both? Lots or few corridors?

    With my few hours so far, I haven't seen TOO many of the kill x amount of demons to continue, though its definitely in there.Basically, there are these "gore nests" which when you destroy spawn enemies that you have to kill to proceed. It happens occasionally enough but to be honest, the combat is really well executed and fun but I can see how it would maybe not lend that well to a speed runner. I myself have been kinda getting into the Doom 2 speedruning scene so I know the struggle. The combat is very fast paced though!

    Level design has leaned more towards the Doom 2 style, much more focus on open arena styles. Only a few corridors. Don't get me wrong, this is a LINEAR game through and through but its not a claustrophobic one; far from it.

    The Berserk power up is here and its incredible. They also borrowed some Quake 3 powerups like haste and Quad damage, which are super cool as well

    If you watched the streams with the devs showing off the game, they'll mention that the story itself which can be found via documents or echoes isn't really meant to be taken seriously.

    Also if I remember correctly just to add to what other people have been asking, you can increase the speed of the game in the menu so it'll be even more fast paced.

    Gameplay is somewhat sand boxy and spontaneous meaning you have to mix up weapons on certain situation vs certain enemy types that have different behavior and weak points and your playstyle might be influenced by what perk loadout you have (e.g. rune that makes glory kills grant more health and ammo pickups so you're incentivized to go for finishers instead of just outright finishing them with your guns for better survivability) and be constantly on the move.
