My male mage keeps walking around with people addressing me as 'my lady' and so on. At first it was hilarious, bu now I'm concerned. It's breaking the experience, and I may have to start a new game. Anyone else having this issue?

Dragon Age: Inquisition is the third installment in the Dragon Age series of role-playing games developed by BioWare.
NPCs call me by wrong gender
I mean... maybe your look is just ambiguous and they're guessing wrong. Sometimes it's hard to tell and you just have to go for it. I know how that is. I had that problem when people would call in when I worked tech support over the phone. Some guys have voices that sound like women and the name just isn't obvious so you aren't sure.
Oh man, it's so embarrassing when you guess wrong, but then you apologize and feel bad and it makes them hate you for not being able to tell.
I am, of course, joking. It sounds like a bug.
I've heard this can be prevented by switching your gender selection at the character creator and then switching it back.
Anyone else having this issue?
Not personally but I've seen this mentioned quite a few times. It seems fairly widespread and was confirmed for being pretty easily repeatable. The only solution I've seen mentioned was restarting the game.

I've read this being an issue. I haven't heard of female characters being called male, but I will look out for it in my playthrough.
restarting would blow. That's 6 hours of progress gone.
Le sigh.
Maybe I'll just put up with the gender confusion. It is slightly hilarious.
@bombedyermom: It might mess up the romance stuff later in the game and if there are any male only options (like the Dark Ritual in DA:O) then you will miss out on that.
Have you just not considered that you are intensely beautiful to them? Gender is like water. You put water in a cup, it becomes a cup. You put water in a bowl, it becomes a bowl. Become water.
You win this thread.
@bombedyermom: I dunno, that Aerosmith seems pretty on-point.
Didn't you read that one preview of the game from GS where they spoke about the possibility of making a character with gender identity disorder? This is a spoiler, but at the end of the game you can either cave to the demands of the patriarchal conservative society or be who you want to be!
I kid I kid :P
@bombedyermom: I was being called Sir as a lady so you are not alone.

Bioware knows what you want :)
Oh, they're just being tactful rather than polite, and the different being being polite and being tactful can be summed up fairly easily:
I'm sure that at some point in your life, you have walked in on a woman changing, in the shower or otherwise indisposed. The polite person would in such a situation say "Forgive me, Madame", where-as the tactful person would instead say "Forgive me, Monsieur."
I had this issue as well. What I heard prevents it, and what I did was; when starting a new game, sometimes the gender cards will momentarily be on female or male and then immediately switch over. If you see this occur first select the gender you don't want, then back out and select the gender you actually want. I didn't have any problems after that.
It's one of the weirdest bugs in a while. But also a MAJOR issue when it comes to immersion. Bioware should make fixing this bug a priority!
It's a form of hazing, if you want to cut it off at the pass you need to assert dominance by urinating on the alpha male.
