Game of the Year anyone?
I have to say this is GOTY for me cause it has totally absorbed any playtime I have and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
I haven't played Dragon Age and have no desire to play it, so I can't comment.
GOTY is going to boil down to Batman, Uncharted 2, MW2, and maybe Assassins Creed 2. It's going to boil down to what your qualifiers are for GOTY...either you want a game thats loads of fun to play but has a few minior flaws (see Borderlands or MW2) or a game that's got a high production value with a kick ass single player (Uncharted 2). Hell, prior to November, Resident Evil 5 was my GOTY and now it's sitting 4th on my list behind Uncharted, Borderlands, and MW2.
Well I haven't beat it yet but the amount of time I've put into it goes to show how jam packed this game really is. After you put 50+ hours into a first playthrough, it starts to make complete sense why it took so long to make.
I voted yes on the assumption you meant personal pick. I don't think magazines and websites will pick it because it's admittedly a niche game, and not meant to garner wide appeal (unlike Mass Effect or Fallout 3 for example). Why is it my favorite? It has well crafted gameplay with more depth than any single player rpg in ten years. It has great characters backed up by great voiceacting. It also has great story, and even as it embraces some cliche elements of fantasy rpg (the first enemies you will tackle as a human noble are rats in the cellar) it's not so serious that it can't laugh at itself. Most games these days don't deliver like Dragon Age does.
But if I had to guess which game will be the industry darling it would be MW2 or Uncharted 2.
I just love it. It's not without it's faults. The 6:1 buying/selling rate. The DLC cheapness. There could have been a few more optional party members. They're all minor setbacks in the grand scheme of things. Dragon Age is most certainly a great adventure. I would say the soundtrack is probably the weakest aspect of the game, but it's at least always appropriate, if not pleasant. I'm 3/4's through my 2nd playthrough and already looking forward to my 3rd. So yeah, it gets my vote.
from what i've played this year i say uncharted, but DAO looks pretty good, dunno if it's my kind of game but it definitely looks competent,
i still need to play some games (batman)
GOTY? No. RPG GOTY? Yes. If mass appeal determine GOTY, MW2 will win, hands down, because there are so many Warbots on so many platforms. DU2 will get honorable mention, but suffers the stigma of being a one console exclusive. As for BAA......seriously?
