Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey takes place ten years after the events of The Longest Journey, the first game in the series. The games starts of as you playing Zoë Castillo the heroine of Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. As she lives her normal life in a technology-driven world called Stark, things start to move on as her ex-boyfriend Reza, asks her to pick up a package for him from Jiva Corporation, on her way back to Reza's apartment to give him the package. She finds that he has disappeared and that's when things start to go strange for her. As she gets mixed up and arrested by the EYE the world police and things move on from there. Where's Reza gone to and what does the EYE want with you? I won't say as you will have to find this out on your own, as I don't want to give to much away from the story as that's the best part of the game, all you need to know is that the story is very smart and very well told.
For those of you who have played the first game in the series, then you will know that its universe consist of two parallel worlds, one of science and logic and the other of magic, its the same for this game as well. You will be Shifting back and fourth from the science and magic worlds, The two parallel worlds are well designed and fun to to be in, and you will want to explore them the most you can, and thats allways a good thing. The science one kind of reminds me of bladerunner, well more so in the first game but It still does here as well just not as much. So that should give you a good idea of how well designed they are.
On to the game-play, you control the character from third-person and explore lots of awesome looking locations. As this is an adventure game it will have puzzles in it you have to do before you can move on to the next bit in the story, but this game does not have as much puzzles as most other adventure games have say like Tex Murphy or the first game in the series, as the game developers want for a more interactive movie fell to the game. But that's not to say you won't still have puzzles to do, you will still have more then a hand full of puzzles to do, and the ones that are there for the most part are very well done and fit in with the plot and don't get in the way of the story. Its just that the game is more about the story and locations then the puzzles and yes game-play, but that gave them more time to spend on the story, locations and characters, and they are that well done that it makes it a good thing if you ask me. We need more games with storys like this. The game-play is still fine as well.
The voice acting and musical score are all good here, all characters sound like they should and are all fully voice activated. The music fits in with the locations it plays in very nicely. And the graphics are still looking nice to this day with lots of detail in them. And the art direction is also very well done from the beautiful city of Casablanca to the tower in Arcadia that goes up higher than you can see, its all so beautifully done.
I would say to those of you who are looking for a good and well written story, fun and interesting characters that you want to learn more about, or just want to get lost in a well designed universe, you can't get much better than this. Just make sure you play the first game in the series that goes by the name of The Longest Journey, if have not played it, it's awesome as well.
