This has been talked about a lot over the past year or two and I think this years E3 has made it quite obvious that game studios/developers would rather hold their own exclusive events throughout the year to announce new games rather than come to E3. I expect a ton of stuff month after month throughout the rest of the year.  
Like lots of the stuff people thought would certainly be at E3 2010 but were not.
