Yah it could be, I've never played one, but a lot of sport games aren't very high quality anymore.

Lol I just wish the other EA sports games were as polished as the NHL series. It just looks and plays so realistic, smooth, and uninhibited by pre-rendered animations. Simply breathtaking!

It's clearly not perfect but it adds alot of sport game.

Not exactly a complicated formula to screw up plus the thread creator sounds like he's praising sports titles that innovate and take risk, not just reskin or upscale what worked.

Pro Evolution Soccer/Winning Eleven is surely the most polished, consistently great sports series there's ever been.

I think it is at the top with their Fifa franchise. Each of the games are well done and very polished, and better than Madden.

@JamesBoyce:  Didn't FIFA overtake them recently? According to soccer game fans I know, FIFA was better. But hey, they are soccer game fans

@jadeskye:  Out of Bounds was a goddamn embarrassment for the series compared to the genius of the two PSP ones.

I played (and liked) NHL 10 and MLB 10 The Show is far more polished. The attention to detail in that game is amazing.

I agree 100%. Madden is up there but every year they forget to fix something and then say they will in the next game and its just an ongoing problem every year. I still always buy Madden though because im a huge football fan!

@RecSpec: Well, I still prefer PES 2010 to FIFA 10, but in some aspects it's on the same level, if not better.  I prefer the all around feel of Pro Evo, though - feels a little more... real?  I dunno, if you have a good understanding of actually playing football, I find it really hard to say that FIFA's better than PES.

EA's NHL is a false representation of the sport. I does not deserve to win those sports titles. It looks good, yes, but it is so far from realistic that it is not even funny.
