Hot on the heels of the mod tools for the PC version of Fallout 3, Bethesda tossed out some new screenshots of the first $10 DLC pack, Operation Anchorage, that was announced last month. See those below.

IGN's also got an in-depth interview on OpAnch (I made that up), as well as the two subsequent DLC packs, The Pitt and Broken Steel. The latter of those, you may remember, is the one that will continue the central storyline of the original game and raise the level cap for your character past 20.

Here are a few choice quotes with the juiciest bits of info.

    • In Operation: Anchorage the player will find themselves able to re-live the famous liberation of Anchorage from Fallout lore -- inside a simulation similar to one found along the main quest of Fallout 3. Once the player finds their way into the simulation, they'll be stripped of their resources and have to survive within the rules set up by the simulation's creators.
    • The Chinese red army is everywhere, and the player will first have to secure the surrounding mountain side and then fight their way into the Chinese base. The player will have to use a lot of their standard combat skills, along with several new tools that will only be available in the downloadable content. These include interactive Strike Teams under the player's command and unique armor, weapons, and other exotic gadgets.
    • [To access the DLC,] here will be a new quest objective and map marker for the player to travel to. You can play through this content at any level, once you've exited the Vault.
    • [Anchorage is] about four or five hours, depending on play style. Plus, it will give you new weaponry and other tools that the player can use through the main game.
    • Based on a lot of feedback, we're going to allow the player to continue on after the main quest ends in the Broken Steel DLC. While a lot of details still have to be sorted, this will allow the player to continue on and play in the Wasteland enjoying the side and freeform quests, along with any new downloadable content we have planned in the future.

Check out the full Q&A for all the info. Also, screens!

Even though I don't have the game, this looks like one of the most fun dlc I've seen for a game.

Dude, I've barely had time to play the box stuff... come to think of it, I've yet to finish Shivering Isles. Must... refrain... from purchase.

Looks brilliant. Really regretting my choice to buy the PS3 version now, I'm enjoying Fallout 3 more then I thought I was going to, I never thought any DLC for this would interest me, I was wrong.

If you really can exhaust the DLC in 4-5 hours, I'll be disappointed. Hopefully there's plenty of random stuff to explore beyond the quest line. (Maybe even a few side quests?)

I really hope they go into the 50's optimism act in Anchorage, with people talking trash about commies and how invincible they are to attack...  Lots of flavor and a change in tone would be great...  Leading up to when you manage to crashland in DC and give future PC all your nice loot :)

OK, that's not how they'll give you things in the main game, but I thought that might be more interesting.  Whatever you do in anchorage, you wind up in D.C. and die, and the main character finds all the events out by reading the journals of the dude/lady who escaped, but died trying to deliver some secret thing to the president.  Then BOOM!

Not too excited about the first DLC.  I don't understand why they would want to have something that takes place pre-war.  It isn't quite a post nuclear role playing game if it doesn't take place post nuclear.

    (I'll prolly buy it anyway).

*ugh*  DLC we gotta pay for...

...does the PC have to pay for it?  I'm really getting sick of console owners having to PAY for all this shit.  CoD4 console players had to BUY their maps, but PC players get them for free.  Hardly seems fair.  I understand the reasons.  I just think it's bullshit.

Oh well.  It'll be worth the money.

Jakob187, if you dropped 1500 on a rig that can play these games at full settings with full framerate, you would expect some free shit also. Console exclusive gamers don't have to pay as much for hardware, therefore they pay more for software.

It's premium content on the PC as well.  The only advantage the PC version has in content is the stuff produced by the GECK will be free and probably plentiful.

I was definitely sold on Operation Anchorage and and the continuation of the campaign DLC, I'm a bit skeptical on the Pitt though.

$10 for 5 hours (or more) is fine by me.  The price of a movie is around $10, pretty good $/Entertainment ratio.  And of course if you think it's too much loot, you can always NOT buy it.  Minus Shivering Isles, these DLC packs look like they're on a whole nother level compared to the Oblivion DLC.

How about giving me a trophy support patch first Bethesda.  The only major title this holiday season to NOT support trophies.  Number one reason why I've only played about an hr of the game so far.

The PS3 isn't getting the DLC anyway. Merry Christmas.

I could build a rig that would run Fallout 3 exceptionally well for about 700 dollars, maximum. You don't have to pay as much for gaming-specific hardware. You also don't pay nearly as much for games, and get more content for them. Not only that, but PC gamers can also get mod tools. PCs can also browse the web, play music, edit images and text and presentations and all that shit, compile and execute code, and do millions of other things that make the stupid "PC costs more" argument even stupider.

Does that mean I think the PC gamers should pay for the content? No, not really. I would much rather everything be free; but playing some kind of money-victim is ridiculous and laughable.
