Do the mechanized soldier-dudes look like Helghast to anyone else? That aside, I'm excited. I've been excited for every FF since 8, and haven't been disappointed. Mostly. 12 and X-2 weren't my favorites, and FF11 was average at best.

Pros:
- Battle transitions.
- Graphics.
Cons:
- No levels or XP.
- No MP -- the timer is the only limiting factor.
- Terrible music.
- Overblown, crappy, anime cinematics.
- Silly, rehashed, story.
- Fails at humor.
It's not looking good to me. The only FF I dislike if FF12. I can't say without playing it really, but I suspect I might be adding FF13 to that list -- albeit for totally different reasons. Where did it all go wrong?

Wait... so you're telling me, there is no XP and there is no MP bar...
Dude, this is more proof than ever that Final Fantasy just does not play anymore in North America. It's an irrelevant 90s series still trying to hang with the current top dogs like Fallout 3 and Mass Effect
I love the Final Fantasy games and been playing them since FF7 ( never played FF 1-6 because I didn't even know they existed back then, never played FF11 because I hate MMOs ). Nonetheless, I remember buying the Playstation One just to play FF7 and nearly dropped out of college because I couldn't stop playing long enough to go to class. That game was so addicting! LOL!
FF13 looks stunning, the character models look awesome ( Lightening, Oerba, Sazh, and Snow ) , and the cinematics are absolutely beautiful, as always. Battle transitions are very quick, I love it! Kool music too! Let's hope the story is as epic in scale. I'm so glad Squenix didn't fill the game with annoying teen or pre-teen brats like most JRPG developers do (Blue Dragon, Star Ocean, Dragon Quest, etc. Yuck!). I am just too old for that shit.
The battles seem too much like FF12, which I found disappointing. Don't get me wrong, FF12 was a decent enough game and sure, the gambit system used for controlling the AI was pretty sweet and has great potential with further refinement. I just didn't like the boring battle system, that's all, and the license board sucked. Bring back the Sphere Grid! I guess I prefer the strategic old school pre-FFXI way of doing things. Also, there's too much crap on the screen during the battles. You would think video game developers would learn to tidy up or strategically place their UI elements so that they do not obstruct the gamers view of the action. Well, that's my two cents. I'm still buying FF13, I'll just have to grit my teeth and bear the disappointing combat mechanics, so I can enjoy everything else about the game.
I wonder who they will get for English voice actors? Any guesses or hopes? I would like Jennifer Hale for Lightening and maybe Tara Strong for Oerba. Hedy Burress is a great voice actor, too!
"Dude, this is more proof than ever that Final Fantasy just does not play anymore in North America. It's an irrelevant 90s series still trying to hang with the current top dogs like Fallout 3 and Mass Effect"Pretty sure the NA sales of this game will disprove what you just said.
Especially considering the huge development time on this one. After so much investment, seeing so little improvement in this vid just ... isn't doing anything for me. I honestly get more out of tri-Ace's offerings than I do the big S-E machine these days.
Also, can we get rid of Nomura and his lazy, recycled designs? Especially the main character. It's getting old really fast. But that's just me, I think."
"Looks ok, nothing special. Just another FF with better graphics and slightly different combat systems. I would buy that, cept. I don't want to play a female main character. If I can play the other guy or someone else, I might be more interested. But as a guy, who loves immersive game qualities. I'm not at all interested in playing a chick. She can be in my group. But not as me.Thats a clear game breaker for me. :( "Right...
Well, so far I don't know. I wasn't really impressed by the video. The battles look cool, some sort of a cross between Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy XII, which could turn out well. Having a hard time dealing with the lack of Levelling up or XP, I mean, this game IS an RPG, what elements of it are going to make it an RPG? I don't get the complaining about going to a separate screen for battles, it's been a part of the series for a very long time. The only thing that really worries me about it is that battles could end up tedious like they did in Okami for me. The transition never felt natural in that game.
I'm gonna have to agree with BoG, especially the point about it being a science-ficition more than a fantasy. It feels as though Square-Enix is trying to force futuristic settings as the next big thing for RPGs, when that really isn't the case. Sure, it's cool if you can take a futuristic setting and still make it a fantasy, but that isn't what FFXIII's doing.
Right now, the main thing that impressed me was the music. The battle music sounds really symphonic towards the middle, which is nice.
Im less interested in this game now. The graphics look bland and boring (no matter how technically good they made be) and it looks like they have given up on the FFXII gameplay. I may be one of the few people who like the FFXII gameplay but I liked it a lot more than the turn based system which for is completely played out. Going back even with some modifications just feels "old". Maybe ill get it at some point but for me the name "Final Fantasy" holds nothing, its new always new characters and new storys, the only thing that stays is the (for the most part) the "gameplay" and names of things but for me I can get that gameplay anywhere and dont care what the airship pilot is called or whether I have magic or magika or anything like that.
I like how the game is shaping up; the characters, the setting and the actual game mechanics all look interesting. I'm especially impressed with the battle music.
I kinda like the new use of the ATB gauge. It sorta blends Chrono Cross and FF mechanics from past. Just from looking at it she had four attack options. The one with the 3 next to it takes 3 attack slots and requires a full ATB gauge to use. The others can be mixed and matched and used with full gauge for a combo or in one or two piece chunks for quicker attacks. I could see some decent strategy coming out of that potentially.
"I like the graphics, they have a kinda FF7 futuristic grittyness to them.Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.Oh, and the music is great, Unlike FFxII"
