Adding premium podcast feeds to Pocket Casts (Android)

Has anyone else had trouble adding the regular premium feed?

If I go to add, then search using the url https://username:password@www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premium/ I get the error message "Search Failed. This doesn't appear to be a podcast feed URL."

If I try adding http://www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premium/ it recognises the feed but never asks for authentication details, and the latest item is "Box Office Bomb: Episode 8" from September 2013.

Any ideas?

you should be able to add [your username]:[password]@ after html://.

@lavitt: that was the first thing I tried, but it failed.

It's weird because I had the same issue when I just subscribed earlier today. Google directed me to this thread and writing in the URL with https worked for me. It was all up to date up to the latest Power Bombcast and Pocket Casts just notified me about the first episode of Danswers not too long ago. Someone in that thread mentioned that it doesn't like certain characters so maybe it has to do with your password? Just a guess.

@redyoshi: did you also have the issue where it would work but only show old stuff? I've tried using both http and https, and my username/password both only contain letter and numbers so I wouldn't think any special characters would be causing issues.

@kin3tik: I didn't run into that problem. I tried it with http first, it gave me the error message you wrote in the OP, and then I tried it with https and also made sure to add the final slash at the end and it worked. Sorry I couldn't be of any help, this seems like a real hit-and-miss thing.

@redyoshi: yep, I made sure it was https and I had the trailing slash but am still getting the error that it's not a valid feed. Odd.

The Bombcast is already on Pocket Casts, but I have to listen to any premium ones over the website.

Are you using the right username and password combination? Not your facebook/email or whatever. It should be https://Kin3tiK:password@www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premium/

@kin3tik: Just a heads up if you are entering your username use your actual username on the site instead of your email address.

@baillie: @i_stay_puft: yep, I'm definitely using my site username (not email) and password. The password only has letters and numbers too, so I can't imagine that is the issue.

@kin3tik: The only problems I can think of is having the password wrong or there is an unnecessary capital letter, like Https and not https.

I honestly don't have any idea how to get any of the premium podcasts onto my iPhone. Can someone help me with that?

@alwaysbebombing: You need a podcasts app, then you need to get the RSS feed for the podcast you want, this can be found on the podcast's page. Take that URL, and stick it in the search field or add podcast field in the app. However, it has to be inputted in an exact way;

I've been trying the same thing since yesterday and came here to find out how.

Somehow it's not working for me too (I'm using Podkicker). Maybe it's a temporary thing?

I believe you have to use auth.giantbomb.com

This is how I have it in PocketCasts:

if you dont put in the final "/" it wont work. Just had it finally work for me so thought I would share that.

I was having the same issue until I saw this thread. Make sure you don't use (http) twice. For ex.

http://kommradeobvious:password@http://www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premium/ <-WRONG

http://kommradeobvious:password@www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premium/ <-RIGHT

@baillie: Oh thank you! Got the podcasts subscribed properly and since the premiums don't go back very far, I've gotta re-subscribe to the regular feed, then un-sub and grab the ones I always like to listen to from the past.

I was able to add the Beastcast via @baillie's way again, but have yet to figure out how to add the Premium Beastcast. Doesn't seem to be available to add yet?

The Beastcast one isn't working and the Bombcast Premium and Premium Podcasts aren't showing a podcast image.

@jdbloom: The premium Beastcast feed might not have propagated yet (I would try again later in the day, or just enjoy Vinny doing ad reads on the non-premium feed). You can go in and refresh the artwork for the Bombcast Premium/Premium Podcast feeds and artwork should show up (or it will show up when you start downloading/streaming an episode, at least in my experience).

@ford_dent: How do you refresh the podcast artwork?

@baillie: In Pocket Casts, if you go to the podcast page and into Podcast settings, there's a Refresh artwork option.

Forgive me guys, I posted in the wrong forum. Meant to post in Overcast and not Pocket Casts thread. The artwork is Overcast specific and not Pocket Casts. The URL did work for me when I changed it to beastcast-premium at the end.

Edit : looks like the end of the Beastcast url is actually /beastcast-premium/ now

Pocket Casts shows artwork when you play the Premium Beastcast, but it doesn't apply it to the feed as a whole for some reason. Anyone know if that's fixable?

How would I do this if I log onto GB with my Google login? I've been trying to figure out how to put GB's premium stuff on PocketCasts for a long time now...

I've been manually downloading Powerbombcasts and listening to the ad-supported version of the Bombcast till now. Looking forward to automatically downloading Powerbombcasts but I'm probably going to stick with the ad-supported Bombcast since Jeff and Brad consistently crack me up with their voiceovers.

So after struggling with this for a long time, I was finally successful. My problem was my password. I had a gibberish password that had symbols in it, apparently this was confusing Pocket Casts when trying to add the feed via URL. I reset my password to one without symbols in it and was able to add both the GB and GBeast feeds without issue with the @www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premiumbombcast/ and @www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/beastcast-premium/ addresses.

Now the only problem is the missing feed artwork...

@hoot: the missing artwork is really annoying. For some reason the premium Beastcast feed is loading in the image but not the premium Bombcast. I've tried refreshing and even readding the feed to no avail...

@groof: Yeah, I also reached out to the PocketCast to see if they could shed some light on the issue. It's weird how the art will show up on the Now Playing screen but nowhere else in the app. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a response from them.

Another weird thing is the premium Beastcast feed still isn't showing Episode 1 for me. It only shows the Mic Test and Ep0. Not sure if I'm alone on that issue or not..

As for episode 1 not showing, that's strange. You might have entered something incorrectly? I listened to episode 1 earlier this morning.

Using podcast republic on android I finally figured out how to add premium podcasts. It's a good free podcast app I recommend it.

On the Subscriptions page on the upper right there is a + button. Press it then press add podcast.

copy and past:

http://www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premium/

in the feed url box.

press Authenticate and press None and select HTTP

enter your credentials and press Find Podcast.

It should pop up.

anybody know the link for adding the premium beastcast? I managed to find the one for the bombcast but replaceing "premiumbombcast with premiumbeastcast doesn't work unfortunately.

This is what worked for me on PocketCasts. i just put "premiumbombcast" at the end instead of just "premium".

Do you guys get the respective casts artwork or the Giant Bomb one when using https? If I use https on Bomcbast- and Beastcast-premium feeds i get the same Giant Bomb artwork for both.

Edit: Nevermind guys. I just double checked again, the https version does use the generic giantbomb logo so the issue isn't with pocketcasts.

How about if I use twitter to log in to site? No way then? Can I convert twitter login into a regular username/pwd?
