Things Dan Ryckert Considers Fancy

I find the things that Dan considers 'fancy' both hilarious and tragic. If these are the things in the entire sum of human experience that are fancy then he must live right at the bottom. On the other hand, it's hilarious to see someone with completely different experiences and value judgements. So, lets make a list! I'll start off...

• Boxers with buttons on the front
• Any wine

I feel like it would be quicker to list things he doesn't think are fancy.

The avoidance of wine is the actual tragic part, though. You don't need to be a connoisseur to realize why it's better than beer (because the occasional craft beer is great, but most beer tastes just north of piss).

I hate both. I only drink cider, if I drink. They're completely different tastes so you can like one and not the other... or not like both in my case.

They're no single malt, but I think that's a bit unfair. At least to good beer and wines. Not the stuff Dan drinks, obviously.

@amafi: I'm not much of an alcohol drinker at all, but every beer and wine I have ever had have been 100% terrible. Maybe I've tried the wrong stuff, but this has been my experiences so far.

@toowalrus: This is correct, and it's why Dan annoys me so much. He doesn't say fancy like its a good thing, it's a term of derision for him. The same way he calls people nerds for liking Lord of the Rings or dorks for liking anime. He's too busy being a bro drinking bud lites and being in bars for all that shit, he's a man god dammit.

Toilets, condiments, plates, pants, hats, Sausalito, basic culinary skills, signs that say "No shirt, no shoes, no service", Olive Garden, any fast food place with seating, that WWF cookbook that J.R. did, J.R. himself, any music not consisting of guitarist/bassist/drummer/vocalist, Salad Shooters, public swimming pools, the works of R.L. Stine, turducken, and the Double Down chicken sandwich.

(I say all of this with love in my fancy-ass heart. Dan is great)

Dan is ignorant. But at least he is committed to being the person he is and isn`t a hypocrite. Also he admits when he is wrong which is more than you can expect from most people. I like him, even if he annoys me when he talks about something he considers "fancy".

PS.: Also good beer is good and so is good wine. That does not include budweiser and buckfast.

On the podcast the other week Dan saying saying Buckfast sounded a bit too fancy was hilarious. As someone from Glasgow, Buckfast is the poller opposite of fancy.

If you can't buy it in a rural, southern Wal*Mart, it's fancy. And even then, those fancy folk have infiltrated the sanctity that is Amurica, Wal*Mart and have introduced things like Dijon Mustard into the fine walls of Wal*Mart.

I think it's pretty obvious he's playing up his persona there. It's pretty apparent that he's fully aware that his tastes and hobbies are just as nerdy as something like watching anime. Not that he's actually open-minded enough to go outside his comfort zone and experience it himself, but you could say the same about a lot of the Giant Bomb staff.

@oscar__explosion: Beer is definitely an acquired taste. Not saying it could be for everyone if they stuck it out, but very few people enjoy beer at first. Beer is my jam now, but for a long time in my late teens/early 20's I found it absolutely gross. Now I enjoy them.
