Is it corporate policy to tell a customer that something that is out of stock and on order will be here in the next couple of days no matter what? It seems like I am always told that and usually it takes a week or more or things to arrive.
Problem I've seen is that the inventory is suppose to update to the warehouse when quantity reaches zero. So if it actually worked right, it'd be restocked within the next couple days, but it usually never works out that way :S.
But it's definitely not policy to tell the customer it'll be in the next couple days.
