kind of the antithesis to the thread I made yesterday. Any games you bought day one and immediately regretted?
Personally it has to be AvP and Metro 2033 games which are, in my opinion, just terrible shooters, the latter in particular. 'Twas for only my standing in my local that I got a refund on metro, but I didn't get it on AvP.
The morning after those games was exactly like looking at who you slept with after that awesome party last night.
Day One purchases you immediately regretted
Final Fantasy 13. Worst purchase I ever made.
I fucking WISH I had bought Metro 2033 instead. Honestly don't care what other people thought of it, that game looks awesome.
Killzone 2 and Viva Pinata for me. One because it was boring as hell and the other was too time consuming to start so I never tried.
- Final Fantasy 13
- The Saboteur
- Mass Effect 2 (However after i played it for while, i seemed to get into it a bit more. Still not my cup of tea though)
Fable II. I liked it okay but it felt nothing like what they had talked up (damn you Molyneux!). And they messed up the limited edition stuff. And the preorder stuff. And the co-op.
One day I WILL find whoever dreamed up 'Dollcatcher' and make them pay.
Final fantasy 13 I can certainly third. Although i got 40 hous in, I want those 40 hours back. I hate all those emeffers in it.
Hellgate London seems to be the worst contender XD I might have to track a copy down, now just to experience how awful it is ^^
Also, hello trolls, you and your answers designed to purposely be against the grain, saying L4D and Halo 3 with no reasoning.
Surprised to see saboteur here as well as on the "games you surprisingly enjoyed" thread XD
I regretted buying Shadow the Hedgehog almost before I bought it. But for some reason, it ended up in my gamecube day one. And back at the store day two.
" Armored Core 4, not what I expected from a current gen console game. "Same here, I loved AC 1, 2 and 3, but 4 was just very meh.
Also, I never understand the FFXIII hate, but I've already said my piece on that in the past, and people tell me to shut my bitch mouth, so I'll let it lay... FOR NOW!!!
The new Super Smash Bros. I bought it because I'm a huge fan of the previous two, but damn, after playing it for an hour I realized I was completely bored with the entire formula. Unsurprising after having played the previous games for hundreds of hours, but still, I hoped that the innovations in the new game would make me want to play it again.
The PSP. I bought that thing and Wipeout on day one. Since that day I bought 3 other games. Well, that´s a failed purchase in my book.
I kind of regret buying Rock Band now that I think of it. It was a delayed release here in Aus (we still don't have Rock Band 2, not that I care now) and I think I had sort of gotten over the plastic instruments fad just as I got it. Never really got into it like I did with the Guitar Hero games (referring to 1, 2 and 3)
Modern Warfare 2 and Killzone 2 are the only examples I can think of... I just got caught up in the hype and bought them even though i'm not too fond of FPS's... I sold MW2 a couple of days after for profit though so it's okay ;D (bought it for £27 from Sainsbury's and sold it for £30 when it was sold out everywhere).
I haven't even opened it yet but I'm starting to regret getting Lost Planet 2. The current champion though is Ninja Gaiden 2 which got played for about a day before going back to EB.
There is very solid reasoning for L4D. Just days after it was released (and people had bought it day one) the price was dropped significantly." Final fantasy 13 I can certainly third. Although i got 40 hous in, I want those 40 hours back. I hate all those emeffers in it. Hellgate London seems to be the worst contender XD I might have to track a copy down, now just to experience how awful it is ^^ Also, hello trolls, you and your answers designed to purposely be against the grain, saying L4D and Halo 3 with no reasoning. That and I personally didn't enjoy it very much, but I certainly don't regret buying it, it's awesome, I just didn't get on with it.
Halo 3, not sure. I enjoyed it a lot, but hated the first two.... soooo maybe there is a reverse effect for some people.
EDIT:
I'm surprised people aren't saying Alone in the Dark. But then, I must be the only person on the planet who bought that release day...
It's got to be Final Fantasy XIII for me. Not because of anything to do with the game itself, but actually because of Amazon. I pre-ordered that game over a month in advance, and I had to wait over a week after launch day for my copy to turn up in the post. I was not a happy bunny, and I've since sworn off online pre-orders of games I want to play on day one, no matter how much cheaper they might be.
I wasn't talking about you, tbh but I dunno. Left 4 Dead was a game I'd still pay full for if I had to (but didn't already own it) because it's a quality game. Besides, it's immediately regretted, so you can't use "it went down in price later on" as a reason, cos that happens to all games, ESPECIALLY on steam.
I can see your point with Halo 3, but if you didn't like the prequels I certainly wouldn't buy the sequel new and day one. Halo 3 has a decent single player on it and that, to me, is the high point of the game still.
I hate being a single-player gamer nowadays; although I'm having fun with co-op modes.
And yeah, you certainly might be the only one to buy AitD day one XD I remember I got it as a present at some point and I actually didn't mind it.
Kane and Lynch: Dead men was NEARLY one of these, were it not for a certain honest-to-a-fault review. Thinking about it, and off-topic, it was around then that I started reading game blogs, I think it was Kotaku and Destructoid I was following then.
Brutal Legend. I really like the story and the atmosphere and the comedy, but the strategy did me in right away. Maybe I will go back to it someday to complete it.
Have to go with Darksiders. I gave into the January 10/10 hype and decided to splash out for it. Unfortunately, it was nowhere close to being a 10/10 classic and thus it left me with an empty feeling inside.
On the plus side, I also bought Bayonetta on the same day, so at least the evening wasn't a complete loss!
Also, hello trolls, you and your answers designed to purposely be against the grain, saying L4D and Halo 3 with no reasoning.Get off your high horse.
