Dragon Quest 8, I was surprised that it kept me playing for 120 hours and I still hadn't beat the game> I was also surprised when I turned on my ps2 one day, went up to load my game file, and it said the file was corrupted

I was surprised that Fallout3 and STALKER: SoC were phenomenal games.

The series that surprised me the most has to be Metal Gear Solid. I have never seen a  series with so many odd easter eggs that left a lasting impression on me. I also have to say the GTA series also surprised me. Before I played them I thought I would never like the series, but once I gave in and tried it I found out that I liked random acts of violence in games. 

Batman Arkham Asylum. 
 
I thought it was shit, and in the end it was awesome! 

I enjoyed Two Worlds, despite all it's horribleness. I think I've played through it at least twice. As the back of the box says, Oblivion on steroids.

Assassin's Creed 2 surprised me.  It turned out to be great.
 
Also, Amazing Island is really underrated and that kind of surprised me when I rented it.  It's Drawn to Life before Drawn to Life ever existed.
