Poll Gatling-Gun, Chain-Gun or Mini-Gun? (180 votes)
I'm curious on what you Duder's prefer when it comes to the naming conventions for a heavy machine gun. I personally am more partial to Gatling-Gun. What do you prefer?

Gatling-Gun for specifically the one in old westerns/The Last Samurai.
Chain Gun for guns powered by a chain-driven mechanism.
Mini-Gun for the one that's usually in video games. the M134 or the M61 Vulcan.
For handheld, multi-barrel, fully automatic weapons in video games, I like the term chaingun. I am aware it is inaccurate, but I hate when it's referred to as a Gatling gun.
But yeah, those are not the same thing, despite what video games may tell you.
Gatling Gun for both the name and actual weapon.
Chaingun sounds stupid.
Minigun I like when it's ironic like the one in Serious Sam
For day -to-day use, I perfere a AU-8/A Avenger, 30 mm hydraulically driven seven-barrel Gatling-type autocannon.
Gal-Gun.
This one gets it.
@acidbrandon18: Chainguns typically don't have multiple barrels, you know. The action is driven by a chain, powered by a separate motor, usually electric.
I mean, yeah, it depends on the game. Usually they specify per game. Wolfenstein 3D has a chain gun, Serious Sam has a minigun, Red Alert 2: Yuri’s Revenge had gatling guns.
If I were presented with a multi-spinning-barrelled gun without context... I’d go for minigun, probably. But if it were mounted to a vehicle or turret, I’d probably go for gatling gun.
