Drew! Excellent!
Giant Bomb's Top 10s for 2010: Day Two
So far the top ten lists have been unpredictable, some games which i have forgot about have appeared.
By the end of this week I expect mass bloodshed, civil war and public executions in the Whiskey offices.
I didn't know people legitimately liked Limbo this much.
I thought it winning the VGAs was just some kind of sick joke.
Oh god.
Am I dreaming.
Someone wake me up. Fuck.
With more and more people putting Limbo as their first, it really makes me want a 360. How does Limbo compare to something like "Company of myself"? I found that flash game to be pretty strong and shorter than the couple of hours people say Limbo is.
Also, I've been drinking, so I appreciate both the conciseness of the lists descriptions and the limit on my debit card...
The video editing has reached a new level. As someone who used to do video editing, I can appreciate the amount of time and effort it took to prepare the features. Truly great work by all involved, keep it coming.
Video games are all about taste. Some people can love even the worst games in the world, and hate the best. Just like there are people out there who enjoy shows like Supernatural, and movies directed by good ol' Uwe. It's a matter of perspective. He by no means said "this is your GotY", he said it was HIS. So, you can question if it's YOUR GotY, but you cannot question it's existence on his list without being a total ignorant fool. Because it's his opinion, completely and utterly. There is nothing more to it. If he liked it more than anything else, than good on him. If you liked it less than anything else, thats the beauty of entertainment. At the end of the day, it's opinion. So rather than acting like it matters how your opinion compares to his, how about you just make your own list, and stick with that?
" @BigChief said:Oh yeah, that was a pretty great quest. One of my favorite bits was the Deku butler's son, because it was done entirely by subtext and implication. The game never comes out and says that the tree you see at the beginning of the game is him, or that you're using his soul to transform. I don't think I noticed it until a year or two back." @ShadowMountain said:Yet I fear we are in the minority brother. Instead of pushing out a derivative sequal, nintendo went and constructed a totally different style of zelda game in the same universe. And it was glorious. But the masses rejected it because all they wanted was more of the same. Barring the crappy last boss it was/still is my favourite zelda game. One moment that always sticks with me was reuniting the the inn keeper with her husband and finally getting them to marry while the moon crashes down on everyone as they declare their vows. Best atmosphere, and mini-narrative in any game I've ever played. Beats anything 'dark' about darksiders. "" @yoshimitz707: Thank you. I'm a big fan of zelda, god of war etc but I found darksiders boring. MM is truely the 'dark' zelda "I haven't played Darksiders, so I can't comment on that, but I agree, Majora's Mask is the dark Zelda everyone always asks for. "
But yeah, a lot of great moments in that game. All the sidequests were great.
@MordeaniisChaos:
Because much of the fun of top 10 lists is questioning (bitching about) them. It's part and parcel to the whole point of posting them. And opinions can be wrong, champ. Or at least wrong-headed. And on a site that does reviews and critiques, it absolutely matters how opinions compare to mine.
I played Limbo. I'm glad I played it. I may even play it again sometime. I'm not saying that it isn't good. I'm not even saying that it doesn't belong on some GOTY lists in one category or another. But when it gets tapped as the most fun, most fulfilling, most complete, best experience of the year - I'm assuming that's what #1 GOTY means - that's a thing that makes me go "hmm." If saying so hurts somebody's feelings, then sorry.
I think all the Whiskey Media folks are tops, and most of the time, most of them probably know better than me. Even so, sometimes I like to participate in the commentary. I don't think that makes me a "total ignorant fool." A partial, unapprised morosoph, maybe.
Rocco Botte's top 10 makes so much damn sense it's insaaaane. Finally seeing games like No More Heroes 2, MGS Peace Walker, and DKCR get in some best of lists. However, the less said about Dante's Inferno the better. Not a bad game but... that video of Ryan trying to beat that one part still haunts me.
When it comes to Limbo, I'm going with Jeff on this one. Artistically, it was a very neat game, but I really didn't enjoy playing it as much as other people seemed to have. Many people have given explanations of why they loved Limbo so much, and I do respect their opinions. However I going to stick to my own opinion and say I was underwhelmed by it.
As for this GotY coverage, i'm loving it. I can't wait to see more in the next few days.
I really liked Drew's list, I agreed with a lot of it. It seems like me and him enjoy the same types of games. Man Love? Maybe not, but the inclusion of Alan Wake and Heavy Rain is encouraging. It certainly makes me feel less insane. But, all this great talk about Limbo makes me feel like I've missed out on something profound.
