Just gonna throw this out there. I'd rather play a great game with shitty graphics then a shitty game with great graphics. All this HD bullshit reminds me of the bit wars.
graphics vs gameplay

Just throwing it out there. Best game has both. Its better if all games are HD if it doesn't get in the way for developing great game play.
I fucking regret making that fucking topic.also having a level where you shoot women who have been abducted by aliens and joke about wall titties five seconds later
If the game is fun as fuck and works on a gameplay/mechanical level, it shouldn't matter what the graphics look like.

But yeah, I would rather play something that looks like it's from 2006 with amazing gameplay than something with Crysis 2/Metro 2033 graphics with shitty gameplay.
I rarely care about graphics anymore.
Most of the games I play are over 5 years old or on handhelds, so high quality graphics are not something I usually look for.

You sir are a crazy person. As much as I adore Zelda, there are parts of Twilight Princess, that full on turn me off. You can't make an epic game like Zelda, and then have textures where you can full on see pixels on the wall textures. This isn't 1997 anymore.
Depends if the game goes for a 2d graphic or stylized graphics because they don't have the tech/skill to be a powerhouse and people don't like the graphics. Gameplay should win over it every time. However if the game developer is trying to make a 3d powerhouse game and falls short it bugs the shit out of me. So gameplay is greater than graphics but at a certain points the graphics have to have some standards.
I'm more interested in a strong art style than high fidelity textures. It doesn't matter how many polys you're pushing when the only colors you're pumping out are three shades of brown.
That said, strong gameplay stays around a lot longer than strong visuals. What looks amazing now won't look as hot 15 years down the line.
I was playing Twilight Princess and Goldeneye 007 (Wii), and one of the things I kept thinking was "Wow, these games are fantastic, but what would make them even better was if they had better graphics." They may be great on the Wii, but a part of me wishes they were updated for their full potential.
Why not both, good graphics and good gameplay. It can happen, these are called AAA games or over 90% on gamerankings. They tend to have good graphics too and it's not sloppy, however great gameplay.
