So, my girlfriend is also into games, but sadly I am mostly an RPG gamer so I am only used to single player games. Can anyone recommend a great co-op game that is not a shooter. Platform doesn't matter, but it needs to be offline/splitscreen.
We already played LBP, Pixeljunk Eden/Monsters and Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
Also, I am open to games that are just fun to play in pairs despite being a single player game.
Great co-op games that aren't shooters?
Castle crashers was and is an amazing game for coop, also if your on the XBLA splosion man coop is decent and its all platforming
Definitely Castle Crashers. Geometry Wars for short bursts of play is fine too. Maybe Lego Star Wars.
"We already played LBP"But have you played Nonna Abelarda: La Cooperazione by BOIA?
Basically you escort a farting wheelcair-bound grandma through a series of co-op challenges. At one point we accidentally decapitated the grandma. Tears of laughter ensued. You'll probably be punching each other in the face by the end of it but you'll be thanking me after the hot make up sex.
I think 2D and 3D shooting games definitely feel different, so try Metal Slug 3 and Bionic Commando Rearmed.
There's also N+ if you like platformers, but all those games are pretty hard, keep that in mind.
" dragon age origins will be co-op and it's a rpg.... as for right now i cant think of anything on consoles that's not a shooter and is co op (besides anything anyone has mentioned here. "That's just single player isn't it?
Red Alert 3 had co-op not sure if it was local though.
I don't know what you consider "great," but it's enjoyable enough. It's a little different than most co-op games, I think.

Fable 2 (although my girlfriend kicks me off co-op on that one to play it by herself), Castle Crashers is good, though not a great girlfriend game per-se... You could try Sonic 3, co-op Sonic and Tails is always a fun time as long as Sonic isn't an asshole and constantly tries to outrun Tails. My girlfriend and I also had a pretty good time on Resident Evil 5, but she's really into that sort of thing so your results may vary.
I'ma have to go with castle crashers or some classic splinter cell Chaos Theory, fun local coop; though it can be a bit tough.
SC:CT is a fun runthrough nonetheless.

anyway, i laughed so fucking hard at that responce.. "do you have interest in this? *link* " ==> Big Gay Al amazed face!
The old Champions of Norrath games on the ps2 have good co-op if you have the means and dont mind playing an older game.

Sadly as far as I know RA3 dosent which is sad because I wanted to co-op it locally my a friend.
My only other suggestion (and as a side note im looking for local co-op games for PS3 to play with one of my buds) is Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom. Its your basic hack and slash game with some light-RPG/Loot gameplay (levelling, unlocking special abilities and clothes to enhance stats) but its really fun in co-op and is pretty cheap since it was a lauch title for the PS3 (I got it for £15 new).
We tried Sacred 2 to scratch the same itch and while its awesome on PC on the console it didnt seem to control well and locked us to the far away camera so we could barely tell what we were doing.
Dragon Age was originally going to have co-op, but it doesn't anymore. Too much work to make a completely seperate co-op campaign, I guess, especially when these games are so dialogue/plot heavy.
The Lego games are a lot of fun on co-op, particularly Star Wars: The Complete Saga. Pretty simplistic gameplay, but it's fun, amusing, and there's a lot of content. The new Indiana Jones one coming out too would probably be worth trying, but I'd give Batman a miss. The levels were a lot less well designed in that game, some of them were actually reskins from Star Wars and the characters just aren't as fun or as interesting, you end up playing as the same few characters the whole game (there's around 20 in total, compared to the 80-ish from Indy and over 100 from Star Wars) and it gets old quick.
Fable 2 is definitely worth trying on co-op too, a lot of people complain about it, but as long as you aren't playing online, there's a lot of fun things you can do. Only downside being, the second player can't customise their character.
Castle Crashers and 'Splosion Man on XBLA are both definitely worth checking out.
You may want to consult this list: List of cooperative video games from Wikipedia.
From glancing through it I see that the PS3/360 game Sacred 2: Fallen Angel has local (single screen) co-op play. Here is a video explaining how it works. If you enjoyed Marvel Ultimate Alliance, you might like this game, too. Sacred 2 is an RPG, so its a genre you'll be familiar with.
If you are interesting in racing games, I suggest Motorstorm: Pacific Drift. It has split screen races as a play option.
I always suggest Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, I had a blast playing it with a boyfriend.
Bionic Commando: Rearmed is pretty fun on co-op. It can get frustrating if your partner is screwing up, but I was playing with my brother and we always argue about everything anyways, so take that how you want.
